Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

A lawsuit was previously filed by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (the new name for the Reedy Creek Enhancement District…) against Disney in state court in Florida. This lawsuit claims that certain agreements Disney entered into with the old Board (which the new Board claims stripped them of their power) are null and void. The Board is suing to ask the Court to declare the old agreements invalid. Disney previously filed a motion to dismiss this lawsuit (essentially get it thrown out of court) for a variety of reasons and now we’ve got an update as to what will happen next.

Important changes are being made at the former Reedy Creek Enhancement District… (now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District).

Additional modifications have come to light. Moreover, Disney Springs restaurant operators have received feedback expressing concerns and grievances. This has led them to file a lawsuit against Disney in the state court and declare certain agreements between Disney and the previous board as null and void. Remarkably, Governor DeSantis’ appointees now comprise the Board of Supervisors for the District, all of this occurring within a short span of a few months.

There have been various types of important updates recently on the way to Disney Company, but news about the upcoming change is particularly significant.

Finally, the CFTOD Board filed a response to Disney’s motion to dismiss, stating that the suit was “moot.” Disney then filed a motion to dismiss the CFTOD Board’s countersuit. Shortly after Disney filed its lawsuit in May 2023, the CFTOD Board filed a lawsuit in reference to Central Florida’s Oversight Tourism District.

The Walt Disney Company, of which Bob Iger is the CEO, recently participated in an interview with CNBC’s David Faber, discussing a variety of recent topics that have been making headlines. However, it is not new for the company to face criticism.

However, the struggle is still ongoing. Already, a new board is established that is implementing significant modifications, and a fresh designation (Central Florida Tourism Oversight District) has been assigned to it.
