Camacho Omar, the Lieutenant Sheriff, along with Sergeant Santana Joseph and Officer Paredes Michael, went to check the motel at 10327 Ave. Garvey, where a woman who was possibly stabbed and injured was reported to be seen.

He stated that Flores possessed a firearm. His spouse and Justin Flores, who is 35 years old, were present in one of the chambers. The law enforcement officials arrived individually, to the best of his knowledge.

Camacho stated that shortly after the woman departed the room, she proceeded to exit at a specific moment, indicating that a shooting had taken place.

He stated that both policemen were shot inside the chamber.

Flores exited the room.

“He was attempting to escape,” Camacho stated.

Flores came across additional officers arriving at the location, according to his statement. The second incident of police gunfire occurred in the parking area.

  • As per Camacho, the sergeant was cared for and discharged on Tuesday evening, however it is still unknown whether it occurred during the gunfire in the chamber or in the parking area. Flores was injured by law enforcement and the sergeant was shot in his lower extremity.

Camacho did not mention whether Flores took and utilized one of the firearms belonging to the officers. The coroner determined Flores’ demise as a suicide caused by a gunshot injury to the head.

Paredes and Santana eventually passed away at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center.

He stated that additional individuals must undergo further interviews. Additionally, he mentioned that the inquiry is still in progress. Furthermore, he stated that investigators are currently conducting interviews and reviewing various types of video footage, such as body camera recordings, surveillance footage, and footage provided by the public.

Flores, who already had a strike on his record due to a previous burglary conviction, was on probation for a gun violation when the shooting occurred in El Monte.

The offenses occurred on March 14, 2020. On March 19, 2020, an attorney accused him of being a criminal in control of a weapon, being a criminal in control of ammunition, and drug ownership.

The two additional charges were dropped. Flores took a deal and pleaded no contest to being a felon in possession of a weapon. As part of the sentence, Flores will serve 30 days of community labor, 20 days in county jail, and be on probation until February 10, 2021.
