Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis serves food at Waffle House amid Hurricane Ian recovery efforts

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida visited a Waffle House in the state and offered meals to residents following the impact of Hurricane Ian.

DeSantis visited a Waffle House in Charlotte County, Florida, on Saturday and assisted in serving food to the linemen.

Twitter said that DeSantis is providing meals to restore power to working linemen. We thank you for serving Floridians together after #HurricaneIan and for being the first restaurant to reopen in Charlotte County, the House Waffle.

Hurricane Ian, falling just 2 mph short of being classified as a Category 5 storm, reached the shores of Cayo Costa, Florida on Wednesday afternoon as a Category 4 hurricane, bringing along sustained winds of 155 mph.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno of Lee County expressed in a Facebook video on Saturday that the county has experienced around 35 fatalities.

“It is with great sadness that I announce that figure,” Marceno stated.

On Friday afternoon, Ian made a second landfall in the United States near Georgetown, South Carolina, as a Category 1 hurricane.

President Biden stated on Saturday that the destruction caused by Hurricane Ian in Florida is expected to be among the most severe in the nation’s history.
