Is John Q based on a true story?
According to a report by Distractify.Com, there is no actual John Q. Between the director Nick and the writer James Kearnes of the movie, as they were told by the team of SWAT advisors that a similar incident took place in Toronto in 1998, where a man called Henry Masuka rushed to St. Michael’s Hospital’s Emergency Room where he was told by paediatrician that there was no duty.
Right away, in order to take his son to the hospital for medical attention, Henry brandished a firearm concealed beneath a towel and took the doctor captive. The authorities were alerted and Henry, the individual responsible for shooting and killing Henry, was apprehended by the police. Fortunately, Henry’s son remained unharmed and returned home with his family. The movie evoked sympathy from viewers as it shed light on the plight of uninsured individuals in the United States, highlighting the exorbitant medical expenses faced even by those with insurance.
