Joe Buck thought he and Troy Aikman wouldn’t last 22 years together due to ‘flighty’ TV business

On the first edition of Football Night Monday on ESPN’s first season, the Buffalo Bills will host the New York Jets. Aikman and Buck Joe will embark on their 22nd season in the broadcast booth together. The pair is set to begin their second season as the leaders in MNF broadcasting. They will set an NFL record, broadcasting alongside each other for their 22nd season on the first edition of Football Night Monday on ESPN, as the Buffalo Bills host the New York Jets. After spending two decades at Fox, the pair is now set to begin their second season as the leaders in MNF broadcasting.

If Buck asked, neither Aikman nor Schefter Adam could have imagined that they would be readying for their 22nd season together in the broadcast booth and appearing as guests on the most recent episode of The Podcast.

Troy really enjoys working alone, especially with his best friend and being in the Hall of Fame as a farmer. I never thought I would be doing any NFL games, but when Fox got the rights in 1994, I didn’t know who would be getting them. I think it’s strange and unpredictable, but that’s just how the TV industry works. I never thought we would last for any reason, let alone 22 years,” Schefter informed Buck.

I am also aware of Troy, and I am proud to be part of a generation that has a long history. However, I don’t feel like it’s worth much. It doesn’t feel the same as it did before, even though it has been 22 years.

Instead of choosing to retire and play for the Miami Dolphins as the head coach under Dave Wannstedt, Buck decided to embark on this journey. He has been broadcasting from the booth for nearly two decades, and now he has spent more than a decade with the Dallas Cowboys, where he was at the center.

He established a continuous collaboration of 22 years with Buck, which helped him kick-start his broadcasting career shortly afterwards, appearing to have made the correct decision.

When I told Schefter Aikman to “continue doing it for a few years until I determined my future plans,” I genuinely believed that I, Adam, would begin at that point. Being a part of that experience was truly fantastic, and then Cris Collinsworth became Joe’s partner. It was during my second year that I joined and gained valuable knowledge.

It has been 22 years and I don’t feel like it’s amazing. We have a lot of fun when we are together. But I think that we should still be together later, especially during this time. I believe that we both take a lot of pride in something. We have great respect for each other. And Joe said that we are great friends.
