  • About the Writer.

Julie Garwood, who was raised in a large Irish family with seven sickly children, realized at the age of eleven that her mother, Elizabeth, was unable to read. Elizabeth was a devoted math teacher and also a Sister nun who helped summer students. Julie missed school frequently, which resulted in a childhood full of sickness. Missouri City, Kansas, is the birthplace of the romance novelist Julie Garwood.

During that period, she authored a book for children and her inaugural novel based on historical events. Upon perusing her essays, her professor of history motivated her to take a sabbatical year for writing. While pursuing her studies to become a registered nurse, Garwood resolved to pursue a dual major in history and nursing.

The publisher soon requested additional historical love stories. The agent successfully sold both a book for children and a novel set in the past. Once her youngest child began attending school, she started participating in writer’s conferences, where she eventually secured representation from an agent. Garwood had never planned on pursuing a career as a writer, but her involvement in writer’s conferences began after her youngest child started school and led to her finding an agent. She named her daughter after the nun who taught her how to read. She and Gerry Garwood got married and now have three children.

Garwood is recognized for her eccentric female protagonists and her precise depiction of past occurrences. At present, she pens thrilling and amorous modern novels suitable for both juvenile and mature audiences.

Julia Elizabeth Garwood, a 78-year-old writer, died on Thursday, June 8, 2023.
