Karen Bass elected as LA’s new mayor, first woman in post

“Start off strong from the very beginning,” she said, with Bass later issuing a statement. She learned about her victory from an assistant while working in her congressional office in Los Angeles, becoming the second Black person to be elected as the Mayor of the city, according to Bass.

I have great respect for Bass’ commitment to serving the people of Los Angeles. “The people of Los Angeles have sent a clear message that it is time for change and urgency,” Bass said in a statement. “I received a gracious call from Rick Caruso, someone who continues his civic participation in the city we both love, this evening.”

Bass stated, “The construction of affordable housing and the creation of good jobs for working families are already underway – we know this and are aware that it is no longer acceptable for Los Angeles to be unaffordable. We are committed to preventing crime and solving homelessness. My message to the people of Los Angeles is clear.”

Caruso stated in a declaration that “the electorate has voiced their opinion,” including that he was proud of his political effort.

In said statement, we need to give Karen our support and congratulate her. We also need to tackle the many issues we face and unite around Mayor-elect Bass. Now that we are a city, there will be more movement coming from the movement we built.

Bass, a Democrat who was on Vice President Joe Biden’s shortlist for president, argued that she could be a builder coalition who could heal a troubled city of nearly 4 million, while billionaire campaign Caruso’s spending overcame more than $100 million.

The heavily Democratic city voters, whether tested in the election or not, were willing to turn away from their liberal tendencies and embrace an approach that placed strong emphasis on public safety.

He promised to expand the police department to deal with the rising rates of crime and the ubiquitous homeless encampments that quickly get off the streets. He argued that other longtime politicians and Bass were part of the problem that led to multiple crises in L.A. Caruso, who shortly before entering the race became a Democrat, represented a right-leaning political stance as a former Republican.

The Democratic establishment and Bass received support from Vice President Kamala Harris and Biden. Bass, a former state Assembly leader, had the benefit of being a lifelong Democrat in a city where Republicans are scarcely seen.

Following the tenure of ex-Mayor Tom Bradley, who served as mayor from 1973 to 1993, Bass will make history as the first female and second African American to assume the position. The election carried significant historical significance.

Next month, as she takes office, the City Council faces a scandal of racism that led to the resignation of two members and the former president, as well as an out-of-control homeless crisis.

Bass will succeed Eric Garcetti, who will complete two terms as mayor.
