Nipsey Hussle’s family to open Marathon store No 2: ‘Fulfilling his dream’

Nipsey Hussle’s family has intentions to fulfill the late rapper’s longstanding aspiration by opening “The Marathon Clothing store No 2” in Los Angeles this year.

Samiel Asghedom, the older brother of Hussle, announced that The Marathon store No 2, a well-known clothing brand, will be established in the Melrose arts district in LA. He also revealed that his family had acquired commercial property for this purpose.

Asghedom, aged 39, expressed, “It is important for me to see my kids fulfill their plans, and it has always been Nipsey’s dream to have a second location at this specific place.”

He stated that the original store on Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard will remain closed, but fans can still pay tribute and visit the site. The family that owns the surrounding commercial lot plans to eventually transform it into a community space, offering free music lessons modeled after the impactful program completed by Hussle as a kid.

The city officials and Los Angeles Police Department revealed that the attempted eviction on the flagship store of the family’s south LA store on Slauson Avenue failed and the surveillance program was kept secretive, as reported by The Guardian last year. The shop on Melrose Avenue, which is a part of Asghedom’s legacy for his brother, is currently being remodeled and does not have a set launch date yet.

The Marathon apparel shop was officially established in 2017, solidifying Crenshaw and Slauson as the intersection associated with Hussle’s reputation.

He himself could make music records for his PC, collecting old computer parts from auctions and building a music studio. As a young teenager, Asghedom recalled writing songs with his brother. However, at that time, he didn’t come close to achieving success. He dreamt of being a professional musician and signed with a label when he was around nine or eight years old.

“We are trying to do something legitimate, not like we were before. We are not selling food on the corner like we used to, damn it. We would frequently see LAPD officers seizing their merchandise, handcuffing them, and shutting them down. Stephen Donelson, business partner of Asghedom, started trying to make money by selling clothing from Chicken Fried Louisiana outside of their trunk, and CDs by selling them on the lot at Slauson and Crenshaw as a teenager.”

Asghedom said that they might have fewer conflicts than he thought when considering whether to move the grand opening of the popular Melrose shopping area near Hollywood West to another location. The brothers went through multiple iterations until they launched Clothing Marathon in 2017. Hussle had first sold CDs out of his car on the corner where the brothers opened their store, Tees Slauson, in 2006.

As Asghedom expressed, “We were aware that it would be successful, we were nearly tempted to simply forsake it and establish a different location.” “However, Hussle insisted, ‘The initial Marathon clothing store must be operational on Crenshaw and Slauson. Let’s bravely face the challenges and accept whatever consequences arise.'”

In 2019, the landlord and officials in LA attempted to force the eviction of the store on the corner, claiming that it was a “nuisance” and a site of gang activity. According to police records and the family, the shop was a significant target for the LAPD, as it was bought by the owners instead of partnering with the business and Hussle.

Shortly thereafter, Hussle was fatally shot outside the store.

Asghedom stated that a physical location will provide the new store, while implementing Hussle’s concept for a Melrose establishment. Subsequently, there has been a significant surge of backing for the brand on the internet.

It was said that Asghedom’s brother’s legacy also continued to be important. It was not a commercial way to do it, but at Slauson and Crenshaw, his brother’s legacy also continued to be important. Hussle wanted to replicate his transformative neighborhood in Watts and create a free music production program for the youth, said Asghedom, Hussle’s participation in that neighborhood.

Adults become they when they teach skills and inspire youth to do something: in the vein of what Hussle stood for, the best thing we could do would be to put a youth center. So… We can really make a big impact towards the youth with just a little resources and a little effort, including a program that ended up with my successful music career pursuing brother, said he. “Everybody!”

Since the outbreak, Gross is additionally reopening Vector90, the south LA collaborative workspace he and Hussle established in 2018, which has been shut down. David Gross, Hussle’s business associate who assisted him in purchasing the property, expressed that acquiring the lot was “deep and lyrical” for Hussle and his determination to promote community business ventures. “No matter what actions we take, it will stand as a lasting part of Nipsey’s heritage and the significance he held for the local area … It will remain even when I am no longer around.”

The fate of his yet-to-be-released music

There have been ongoing rumors about Nipsey Hussle’s unreleased music, including a recent announcement that new tracks would be released as an NFT. Additionally, it was said that Asghedom, who has a family, was unauthorized and the reason for the shutdown.

“The content is of high caliber, timeless material,” he expressed. “Individuals will be genuinely thrilled about it. There is an abundance of music that nobody has listened to, all of it excellent,” but there are tracks that have not been made available yet.”

Perfect Lap Victory is what I want, and The concept album has to have a cadence and flow. This record doesn’t fit that. It could get commercial success and sales, but nah, he was like, ‘You gotta put that on the album,’ but we said, ‘Nah, we don’t want to put that on the album.’Output: I desire a flawless triumph in the lap and The concept album must possess a rhythm and fluidity. This record does not align with that. It might attain commercial triumph and sales, but no, he insisted, ‘You must include that in the album,’ however, we responded, ‘No, we do not wish to incorporate that in the album.’

We do not want to go around compiling new music and putting out what’s called the “Second album.” There will always be only one album for us, and that will be “Lap Victory.” But Asghedom said he didn’t want to release the records as the second album.

His hope is to release new music, which includes the story of his brother’s life as a part of the soundtrack for a documentary.

I think Nip wanted to inspire people – that’s what his genius was. They understood what Nip was trying to do: inspire everybody, from athletes to lawyers to doctors to actors to writers to book reporters. People from all walks of life have shown respect and love for Nip, as seen by the love outpouring for him in murals across LA. His family said they have been humbled by the love shown for Nip by so many people referencing his story.
