Patient shot himself to death inside Vineland hospital. What we know

Scullin stated on Saturday afternoon, “The police in Vineland are conducting an investigation. The campus has been secured by the Vineland police. Thankfully, no one else was harmed, and our security department immediately secured the firearm. It was an isolated incident. We understand that a patient sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound under our care, and the incident occurred at approximately 8:40 this morning at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland.”

Approximately 13 years ago, the individual departed from the nearby law enforcement agency. As per sources in law enforcement, it is thought that the individual in question is a former police officer from the local vicinity. It is believed that the person is in their late fifties.

The Criminal Division of Vineland Police Department is currently investigating the incident, and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office is aware of it.

“In an announcement, the police declared that patients, staff, and visitors at the facility are currently not at risk. Despite some police presence at the location, the lockdown has been lifted and Inspira followed their security protocols.”

Authorities stated that there would be no additional details at this time.

Inspira Health Network, a nonprofit organization based in South Jersey that also operates hospitals in Elmer Borough and Mullica Hill, along with a variety of community offices, runs the medical center.

In 2014, an individual fatally shot himself within the emergency ward at Inspira Medical Center Woodbury. The security protocols and procedures of the healthcare system underwent an impartial investigation, resulting in an alleged augmentation of video monitoring and personnel education.

At the time of the shooting, it remains uncertain how the individual involved in the incident on Saturday managed to bring the firearm inside the hospital or if there were any staff members, workers, or fellow patients nearby.
