Authorities stated that they were attempting to apprehend the suspect who injured a police officer and a deputy sheriff, resulting in an exchange of gunfire near Atlanta. The wanted individual was killed and the officers were shot during the incident in Hampton, Ga.
During an intense manhunt for a 40-year-old man, Andre Longmore was shot, said Syntonnia Moore, spokesperson for Henry County Sheriff’s Office. The quiet subdivision of Hampton, located in the south of Georgia’s main city, was rocked by an exchange of gunfire on Saturday morning after a day of shootings.
Longmore was fatally shot by law enforcement authorities in a neighboring vicinity of Clayton County, as stated by Moore. During the apprehension operation, a Henry County deputy sheriff and a Clayton County police officer sustained injuries.
Moore stated that she had no information regarding the conditions of the officers.
Mr. Longmore has eliminated the threat posed to the public by saying that the manhunt had come to an end, indicating that the suspect had been apprehended before the shooting occurred. Law enforcement officials returned fire and the U.S. Deputy Marshal, Grady Van, confirmed that gunfire was exchanged.
Authorities stated that they were seeking Longmore on four murder charges in connection with the deaths of four individuals on Saturday morning in the Dogwood Lakes subdivision of Hampton. Police have not disclosed a motive for the shootings.
Longmore and his team of investigators were actively seeking the public’s help, as stated by Captain Chaundra Brownlee of the Hampton Police. They were thoroughly searching the subdivision on Sunday, crawling with law enforcement officers, in search of any leads or tips that could be provided.
Henry, the Sheriff of County Reginald Scandrett, had earlier stated that his office was offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect.
On Sunday, Frankie Worth, the neighbor, described the close-up danger he witnessed as he reached his living room window to open the blinds. He said that he heard a gunshot on Saturday morning and saw part of what unfolded, realizing how much work he had to do in the yard.
Worth, who introduced himself as a former member of the Marine Corps, expressed, “You see, when you encounter incoming fire, it’s crucial to determine its source.” Subsequently, he redirected his gaze towards the window. Worth mentioned that he briefly took cover for a moment.
Worth mentioned that he observed the man’s hands twitching due to the kickback of shooting a silver pistol. A familiar neighbor known as Andre was positioned in the center of the road.
Worth stated that the shooting occurred on the outskirts of a dead-end street where they all reside. He mentioned that the individual seemed to have discharged a firearm towards a compact white vehicle being operated by another resident, “an elderly Caucasian gentleman,” residing opposite Worth.
Worth stated, “He didn’t seem furious, distressed, or flustered,” but mentioned that the individual acted with intention. Worth mentioned that initially, he believed he was observing a situation of aggressive driving.
Worth reported that he phoned the authorities while observing Longmore vanish behind a cluster of trees, having assumed a “brisk pace” before subsequently transitioning to a more relaxed gait as he approached the entrance of the residential area. Worth stated that, while assessing the necessity of firing another shot, Longmore reemerged.
Longmore, who escaped in a black GMC Acadia SUV following the shooting, was being pursued, according to the authorities. Worth confirmed that no additional gunfire was audible.
At least three police vehicles continued to be present on Sunday in Dogwood Lakes, where investigators were examining a minimum of four locations associated with criminal activities, as stated by Hampton Police Chief James Turner during a press briefing on Saturday.
Law enforcement authorities did not promptly disclose the identities of the individuals affected.
Public records indicate that Longmore lived in a neighborhood approximately 25 miles south of downtown Atlanta, where about 40 houses are situated, and two streets are bordered by a lake.
The following day, Foster was indoors when he heard the sound of metal crunching from the windmills that had been destroyed. Longmore drove across Foster’s and his neighbor’s yards, damaging numerous decorative windmills and leaving tire marks that could still be seen on the lawn. Ron Foster, residing on the primary street just outside the entrance of the housing development, remarked.
“What was going through that man’s thoughts after he did all he accomplished?” Foster pondered. “It was surreal.”
Foster received a call from a retired law enforcement officer, but he was unaware at that moment that several individuals had been injured by gunfire.
“He telephoned me and stated ‘Ron, you all stay indoors or venture elsewhere,'” Foster expressed “We complied.”
On Sunday, individuals took safety measures while Longmore was on the loose.
On Sundays, the doors remained locked while the security team from the nearby First Baptist Church of Hampton approached unknown vehicles in the parking area during services.
Hampton is home to Speedway Motor Atlanta, which hosts NASCAR events for Georgia’s racetrack. The town of 8,500 people has also benefited from the movie production boom in Georgia.
