Richard Allen files motion to allow broadcast cameras in courtroom of Delphi murders court proceedings

The defendant in the Delphi 2017 murders case, CARROLL County, Ind., Has filed a motion to authorize the future broadcasting of public proceedings in the courtroom.

Allen M. Richard stated on Wednesday that the filing generally prohibits the televising, broadcasting, or recording of photographs in the courtroom, as per Rule 2.17 of the Judicial Code of Conduct in Indiana.

However, the defense could cite the recent amendment to the rule, thereby permitting the judge’s discretion to authorize the broadcasting of legal proceedings in their courtroom.

Broadcasting will be allowed as long as the methods of the recordings do not divert participants’ attention or diminish the respectfulness of the proceedings, the regulation that became effective in May 2023.

The team added that the circumstances and facts surrounding the investigation in Delphi have reached national public attention, and the jurisprudence system in Indiana will be scrutinized in a rare and unusual manner by the courts.
