Choice of Program
The program coordinator will also explain in greater detail the application process and provide the student with directions to SIP SAGE application. The program coordinator will help the student determine if the non-KU program meets the guidelines of SIP and Kansas University. Before beginning the application process at KU, the student must schedule an appointment to meet with a SAGE program coordinator.
To locations with elevated risk, acquire additional knowledge regarding KU International Travel Guidelines. Requests for exemptions from this protocol will be evaluated by the International Travel Review Committee (ITRC). Details about Level 3 or Level 4 regional categorizations within a nation can be obtained by reviewing the country-specific advisory. The assessment level assigned to each country can be accessed through the U.S. Department of State Website. Please note that, due to concerns for the safety and welfare of students, KU does not endorse studying abroad in areas where a U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory Level 3 or Level 4 has been issued.
Engagement Global & Abroad Study does not endorse any particular program provider that offers programs in South Korea at KU. There are a few SIP program providers below.

Application
Regardless of the deadlines for non-KU programs, students are required to fulfill the KU Study Abroad & Global Engagement SIP application and scholarship application (if necessary). Moreover, it is the student’s duty to keep track of the deadlines and application procedures for the non-KU program.
The deadline for Winter Break, Spring Break, and Spring Semester programs is October 1st.
The due date for Fall, Academic Year, or Summer programs is March 1.
In order to finalize an Academic Plan, students are required to schedule meetings with faculty advisors from their department and their academic advisor in their major. This is a common requirement for various other study abroad opportunities. Through this process, they will have the opportunity to ascertain the corresponding KU credit they will earn for their study abroad courses.
In order to participate in the SAGE program, students are required to provide a duplicate of the acceptance letter issued by the hosting institution once they have been accepted into a non-KU program.
Orientation
All students who participate in SIPs are required to take part in the pre-departure orientation provided by SAGE KU, as well as the on-site orientation arranged by the SAGE program at KU. These orientations are crucial in providing important information on safety, culture, and academics to students studying abroad.
Credit-Posting
If students want to find out their transcript, they must either directly obtain it or it will be automatically forwarded to the Program Coordinator, SAGE. The transcript can be hand-delivered by the student or sent directly from the host institution or provider. The Global Engagement and Study Abroad (SIPs) Programs require a sealed copy of the transcript, which must be equivalent to an official transcript and signed. The student’s GPA will be calculated based on the grades earned, along with the accompanying Worksheet Credit or Form Approval & Plan Academic. These grades will appear on the student’s KU transcript. All courses taken abroad must be approved prior to departure and must be posted on the KU transcript by the relevant academic department. Students are required to maintain full-time student status while studying abroad.
Completing the grade posting process is crucial upon graduating from KU, as it could potentially result in the loss of all financial aid, including scholarships and loans that need to be repaid.
Fees
The Study Abroad & Global Engagement office includes the SAGE administrative fee, which covers services such as repatriation and medical evacuation in case of emergencies, as well as 24-hour emergency contacts and pre-departure orientation.
At present, the tuition and program fee for participating in a Student-Initiated Program at KU are as follows:
Once you enroll in the program, the SIP charge will be invoiced on your KU account. The SIP charge is in addition to any tuition, fees or other costs associated with the non-KU program.
Students must directly pay these fees. Your KU account will not receive a bill for them. The student’s responsibility also encompasses other expenses associated with the program, such as fees charged by non-KU program providers and/or the host institution for tuition, accommodation, and meals, among others.
