Continuing in Russia but shifting to the early 20th century, the following film is The Scarlet Empress (1934), featuring Marlene Dietrich as Catherine II (also known as Catherine the Great), the final Empress of Russia, who ascended to power after overthrowing her husband, Peter III (Sam Jaffe). Queen Christina (1933) initiates the lineup, a biopic about the life of the titular 17th-century Swedish ruler, portrayed by Greta Garbo. After spending two weeks in the British Isles, Turner Classic Movies takes us to the European continent for this evening’s selection of films centered around real and fictional royalty. TCM’s programming starts at 8 pm with Catch a Classic! Following that is The Three Musketeers, a 1948 adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic adventure novel, with a fictional story set against a historical backdrop that includes notable 17th-century French figures like Queen Anne (Angela Lansbury) and King Louis XIII (Frank Morgan). The next film is set in Imperial Russia during the late 18th century and is part of the TCM Spotlight: Royal Treatments series titled “European Royalty (Sweden, Russia, France)” on TCM.

This is the sequel to the 1983 film “A Christmas Story,” where Peter Billingsley, who played Ralphie as a child, returns home as an adult. It is titled “A Christmas Story 2” and is available on HBO Max.
Each year, the Society of Santa in New England organizes an annual summer camp called Camp Santa. This camp is composed of over 100 professional Christmas performers, including Levi, a transgender Santa from Illinois, Fin, a disabled Santa from Vermont, and Chris, a Black Santa from Arkansas. The camp aims to tackle the problem of diversity in Santa’s portrayal and tells the personal triumphs and stories of these unique Santas. Stacey Reiss, a BAFTA-nominated and Emmy-winning producer, along with Jane Roe (also known as FX’s Sweeney Nick producer and director) and Max HBO, has produced a new documentary film called “Camp Santa: The Story of Santas” which showcases the camp and its participants.
The drama series “Trouble in Is Fleishman!” Stars Jesse Eisenberg as Toby, a recently divorced 41-year-old who has never had success with dating apps and dives into them for the first time. However, his newfound freedom is jeopardized when his ex-wife (Claire Danes) disappears, leaving him with their two young kids. There is no hint of whether she plans to return or where she is. Adam Brody and Lizzy Caplan also star in the eight-episode drama.
The passengers of a second ship, adrift on the open sea after months of being missing, embark on an unexpected and nightmarish journey. The circumstances surrounding the mysterious voyage of an immigrant ship from Europe to New York, set in the year of the title’s series, takes an unexpected turn. This German mystery series, created by the makers of Dark, premiered on Netflix and received audience acclaim when it debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

The sequel to the original Disney+ film, Disenchanted!, Is a fantasy comedy/romantic musical. This film reunites the stars of Enchanted’s 2007, James Marsden and Idina Menzel, along with Patrick Dempsey and Amy Adams. Giselle (Adams) has been living happily ever after with Robert (Dempsey) in the city for 15 years, but now she is growing disillusioned. When she tries to make things the way she wants using magic, she and her family move to the suburbs in search of a more fairy tale-like life. Unfortunately, the quick fix Giselle had hoped for is not possible and it puts her family’s future in jeopardy. The film also features new songs from Stephen Schwartz and Alan Menken, and stars Jayma Mays, Nicole Yvette Brown, Gabriella Baldacchino, and Maya Rudolph.
Disney+ will be released on the same day that Mickey Mouse first appeared in the 1928 animated film Steamboat Willie. This documentary explores the cultural importance of the legendary and almost hundred-year-old cartoon character, Mickey: The Story of a Mouse. On the day later, November 25th, TBS will also be airing the classic Thanksgiving night film, “The Wizard of Oz.” This film won an Oscar for its musical score by E.Y. Harburg and Harold Arlen, including nominations for Best Picture and five other categories. It also received an Oscar nomination for its stunning cinematography in both color and black-and-white, and it still looks beautifully stunning after 80 years. In this iconic role, Judy Garland stars as Dorothy, a young farm girl from Kansas who is whisked away to the land of Oz, accompanied by her little dog Toto. Pursued by a wicked witch, Dorothy follows the yellow brick road in search of the titular Wizard of Oz, hoping he can grant her wish to return home. Along the way, she meets a cowardly Lion, a heartless Tin Man, and a brainless Scarecrow. “The Wizard of Oz” is considered one of the greatest movies ever released in Hollywood’s magical year of 1939, and it continues to be near the top of the list for most people. It’s hard to pick a favorite among the many terrific movies from that year, but “The Wizard of Oz” is definitely a classic. Catch it on TBS at 6:30pm!
