Lavigne encountered her initial spouse, Deryck Whibley, the lead vocalist of Sum 41, at a pub when she was 17 years old.
In April 2011, Whibley from Rolling Stone shared with me the story of how I first met the punk pop star. “He gave me my first shot of Jägermeister. I was wearing a tie that day. It was during the days when ties were in fashion.”
Despite the short-lived nature of their marriage – Lavigne filed for divorce in October 2009 – the former couple maintained a cordial relationship. It was in July 2006 when they solemnized their commitment at an exclusive property in Montecito, California. Nonetheless, it took them two years from their initial encounter to embark on a romantic relationship.
Making the announcement of their split, the nominee for a Grammy expressed in a statement posted on her website, “I appreciate and feel fortunate for our ongoing friendship and I am thankful for the period we spent together. We have been acquaintances ever since I was seventeen, began a romantic relationship when I turned nineteen, and tied the knot when I reached twenty-one.”
Almost ten years later, the songwriter of “Complicated” shared with Billboard in 2018: “He’s a great Canadian man.”
The reality TV star used social media to refute rumors that there was animosity between him and the “Girlfriend” vocalist following the publicized news of their separation. Lavigne then started a relationship with Brody Jenner, being in a romantic involvement with the former Hills cast member from 2010 to 2012.

Jenner tweeted in January 2012, “Avril has always been the person closest to my heart, and I have always loved her the most and she has always been the person closest to me, and I have always loved her the most and she has always been the person closest to me, and I have always loved her the most and she has always been the person closest to me.
Afterwards, not long after the Canadian individual ended their relationship with Jenner, a rapid and intense love affair was ignited with Chad Kroeger, the frontman of Nickelback. In March 2012, the pair crossed paths while working together on Lavigne’s eponymous album. In July of that year, they embarked on a romantic relationship, and merely a month thereafter, Kroeger popped the question.
Lavigne announced via Instagram that they were parting ways after two years of being married. The musicians got married in July 2013 on their one-year anniversary but eventually went in different directions.
“We will always deeply care for each other, and we will forever be the best of friends. She wrote this in September 2015. We are still together and will remain so. We have created many unforgettable moments, not only through music but also through our marriage.”
Despite releasing an album titled Love Sux in February 2022, the actress from Fast Food Nation accepted another marriage proposal that March, after being engaged to Mod Sun for approximately one year.
“Our days are over, until we are together forever,” expressed Mod Sun (birth name Derek Ryan Smith) on Instagram, stating, “It was the day when you realized I had found the one.”
Us Weekly confirmed in February 2023 that the couple had ended their engagement.
