SIG Sauer launches the P320 Custom Works fire control unit (FCU) so you can design your own.

A handgun is the most personal firearm because it receives the most attention and is often customized with desired aftermarket components. However, the downside of customization is that it is limited by imagination and budget, and the changes can be seen as cosmetic rather than functional. New brand guns often get tossed aside for new brand parts, as efficiency is a desired factor.

SIG Sauer has improved upon that inefficient procedure by introducing its new P320 Custom Works program. This initiative enables enthusiasts to buy the P320’s Fire Control Unit (FCU), which is the serialized chassis within the P320 platform, from a SIG Sauer dealer. With this program, you have the flexibility to customize the remaining components according to your preferences.
Collaboration
SIG Sauer’s Custom Works program aims to provide unparalleled control over the pistol’s features. The program’s feasibility lies in the design of the P320 FCU by SIG Sauer. The FCU bears the firearm’s serial number and is legally considered the “firearm” itself. The barrel, slide, and grip module are merely accessories. You have the option to shop online if you prefer, as everything except the FCU can be purchased and shipped without setting foot in a gun store.
While SIG Sauer always meant for the P320 pistol to be user-configurable and modular, many fans of guns may consider the thought of chucking new parts a tough consideration, but this is a minor consideration for budget shooter fans. (The MSRP for the basic Nitron P320 is $549, which is the original expense of the gun) Some changes were made to recover some of the expenses of the original gun by selling them or discarding unwanted factory parts.

Once the customer has customized the program, the Custom Works program can help, if the customer is not familiar with manufacturers who have teamed up with SIG on this project. If the customer decides to buy either from a third party or from sigsauer.Com (starting at $39), he could have his choice of grip module and slide assembly, as he already has the FCU in his possession. If the customer bought an FCU from a guy at a shop and decided to buy a grip, SIG currently offers several grip modules for the P320, including ones that cover duty, competition, concealed carry, and various lengths, with the current rage being the TXG XSeries grip module, which even includes a heavy tungsten-infused option ($299).

For the initial experience, SIG Sauer’s latest Custom Works enables the FCU owner to construct their desired firearm by utilizing their preferred aftermarket components. This is precisely why the program is generating significant attention. Previously, customers had to either take the risk of modifying their original purchase, which required additional time and expense, or they chose to replace it entirely with their desired option. In the past, P320 owners who desired a specific or more practical approach could either personally customize a grip module using a Dremel tool or send it to a third-party entity for modifications, or opt for a replacement module from businesses like Wilson Combat’s WCP320 ($65).
The Studio P320 from SIG Sauer offers a variety of options for customers to customize their pistol. For example, by ordering the complete pistol from Mirzon, customers can get a grip frame from Machine Mountain Parker ($119), a compensator and barrel slide from JTTC, and a discount of 10 percent on all registered FCU’s. Additionally, SIG Sauer has partnered with many other manufacturers to make frames, slides, and barrels available for customers to shop for with their FCU SIG. This means that the Studio, which is an online configurator called the Sauer SIG configurator, allows customers to quickly and easily add these offerings to their order.

Zev’s Octane Z320 XCarry and XCompact retail models are priced at $1,299, and Zev allows customers to customize their own signature configurations by partially buying finished slides and critical parts. Like a custom gunsmith, Zev partners with SIG’s P320 Works Custom program to offer the opportunity to purchase SIG Sauer slides and FCUs. Zev has even developed their own polymer-framed, striker-fired pistols over the years. For example, Zev Technologies presents a major benefit in offering aftermarket FCUs as a second major advantage of their program.

Options Galore
There is currently an unprecedented aftermarket support for the third party, parent-company kind of this. There will soon be even more options, where I suspect there are many. The Custom Works P320 program is the first to actively seek and promote aftermarket support for FCU and partners, which aligns with my knowledge. The program actively seeks to sell and promote their products in the aftermarket. The X-Series and P320 have already been commercially sold for some time, so there is already a good selection of aftermarket parts available.
The grip modules are likely the most notable aftermarket parts for the P320. To begin with, there are options available from Wilson Combat, Icarus Precision, Mirzon, and GrayGuns.

I found that every hand fits well in these A-320 frames. This SIG Sauer P320 pistol’s grip makes it easier for small hands to work with. When compared to the standard grip on the P320, the top portion of the grip has been considerably thinned and the frames grip are entirely made of 7075 billet aluminum. Precision Icarus offers aluminum frames that fit the FCU P320. They cost $370.
The Mirzon Upgraded Grip Module for the P320 ($119) features rubber inserts embedded in the handle. Despite maintaining its comfortable grip, Mirzon has slimmed down the upper part of the handle and increased the thickness of the lower part to facilitate convenient access to controls. Additionally, it provides a tactile rubberized sensation.

GunsGray is a player in the high-end competition scene, known for its long-lasting performance. It has a reputable reputation for significantly improving factory offerings for trigger components. Additionally, GunsGray offers laser-etched grip modules for the P320, which enhance the purchase and give it a good look. While their triggers are my favorite products, they come in different shapes. However, GunsGray sells factory units that look the same but have different shoe shapes for their triggers, priced at $89. These triggers reduce the weight pull by around 30 percent and can be dropped into the factory FCU while retaining the factory safety. For those looking to further reduce pull weights and have more complicated trigger kits, GunsGray also offers available options.

I disagree with anyone I haven’t met. When holding the Combat Wilson grip in my hand, it feels great. The grip combines a heavy scallop design with a narrower backstrap and frontstrap, making it more comfortable than the stock P320 SIG Sauer grip. The website explains why they are often sold out (and it’s not because they are expensive – they sell for $65). In my opinion, the significant changes made by Combat Wilson in their WCP320 offering make the grip look like it has been modified by SIG. While it may look like a modified grip, it actually comes as a textured Starburst pattern from Wilson’s Combat grip modules. Perhaps my favorite aftermarket grip module from Combat Wilson.

The module grip of Wilson’s WCP320 Combat enhances the performance and provides a subtle, thoughtful look. It resembles a simple and pretty module grip, similar to the ones found on SIG Sauer’s P320 and X5 pistols. Adding weight to the grip of Wilson’s module is possible without any bulk or reloads, thanks to the integrated magazine funnel. This improves the recoil characteristics and balance of the P320. Users can even install metal or tungsten dowel rods behind the magazine inside the frame grip, allowing for an integrated weight system. Wilson also places aggressive texturing on the front and backstraps, making the WCP320 module controllable even during rapid fire.

The Custom Works program by Sauer’s SIG includes not only grip modules but also several other options. It covers the top half of the guns. Barrels and slides in Precision Ghost Grey are available as options. Several barrels and slides from Combat D2L, Arms Rival, PMM (Machine Mountain Parker), and Mountain Parker are also available. PMM is a small shop down the street from Sauer SIG that offers sophisticated slide/compensator/barrel packages that integrate a compensator in a factory-like manner ($355). The most impressive aspect of these packages is the performance they offer. The muzzle cuts assembly allows for almost no flip during rapid fire, keeping all shots in a relatively small group. I was able to keep all shots in a small group during rapid fire because the muzzle didn’t move. I never lost sight of the red dot sight, thanks to PMM’s cutting slide service.

Aesthetic enhancements and texturing, lighting reductions, optic-mounting solutions, and their static while specs slide-weight recommended Sauer’s SIG approach to cutting slide integration can then be used by L2D and Rival to streamline their production processes. These companies, Combat L2D and Arms Rival, decide to leave the unfinished exterior slides of the Sauer SIG, but they ensure that all critical dimensions are cut in these slides. SIG now offers gunsmiths the ability to make their own slides, but Combat L2D and Arms Rival provide great kits and parts for building any complete FCU P320 in a way that is exceptional.

It’s a courageous new realm for pistol shooters worldwide. SIG Sauer’s endeavor to incorporate and endorse third-party manufacturers throughout the FCU program will guarantee that customers such as ourselves can obtain precisely what we desire or require, even if it’s a product that SIG Sauer does not manufacture. Never before has a handgun enthusiast had such a plethora of exceptional alternatives at their disposal.
