Andrew Tate, the controversial figure on social media and former professional kickboxer who is facing charges of rape, human trafficking, and leading a criminal organization for the sexual exploitation of women, had his appeal rejected on Thursday by a court in Romania. This decision upholds the earlier ruling to maintain his house arrest, as confirmed by his spokesperson. The news was reported from BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) –.
The Appeal Court of Bucharest ruled against Tate’s appeal, challenging the decision to extend the house arrest measure for an additional 30 days, as the criminal case continues.
Four individuals, including two Romanian women and Tristan, a 36-year-old social media star, along with his brother, were initially arrested near Romania’s capital in late December. They have been accused of various allegations, which they have denied. Recently, the anti-organized crime agency in Romania, known as DIICOT, formally indicted them. This decision was made after several days of investigation.
Before the appeal court’s ultimate decision on Thursday, an additional judge was called upon to oversee the ruling as two judges had differing opinions on whether or not to support the house arrest measure.
In Romania, the brothers who have been ruling since the first time the judge ruled against them and lost the appeal, even though they were hoping for a unanimous decision, have been allowed to move freely without any restrictions, as stated by Mateea Petrescu, the spokesperson for Tate Brothers.
“Despite the significant damage suffered by their reputation, the brothers continue to have faith in the Romanian justice system and remain optimistic. She added that this could be a great step towards the rightful exoneration of Tristan and Andrew.”
Romanian law judges, under investigation by DIICOT, had requested an extension of the house arrest measure for the judges who decided whether or not to send the case to trial, which often takes longer than 60 days.
Tate, who is accused of promoting conspiracy theories on the internet and having gained 7 million Twitter followers, has consistently asserted that there is no evidence against him from prosecutors and that a political plot has been orchestrated to suppress his perspectives.
“Following the court’s ruling,” tweeted Andrew Tate, “it’s quite peculiar that one judge can deem the document as worthless and warrant its dismissal, while another judge can advocate for your continued deprivation of freedom. I’ll leave it to you to ponder… Is this all based on the same document? I haven’t stepped foot outdoors for 7 months.”
Tate, the dual citizen of the U.K. And U.S., Won an appeal on March 31 to be moved to house arrest after spending three months in police custody.
In Romania, as well as in the United States and Britain, DIICOT claims that the four accused individuals established a criminal organization in 2021 “with the intention of engaging in the illegal activity of human trafficking”.
DIICOT stated that there are seven women who fell victim to the scheme, enticed under false promises of affection and taken to Romania, where the criminal group sexually exploited and subjected them to physical abuse. As per the authorities, one of the defendants is charged with assaulting a woman on two occasions in March 2022. Prosecutors alleged that the women were under the control of the perpetrators through intimidation, constant monitoring, and assertions of indebtedness.
Andrew Tate, who was previously banned from several prominent social media platforms for expressing misogynistic comments and hate speech, should bear responsibility for sexually assaulting women.
Several women in the United Kingdom are also pursuing legal recourse against Tate in order to obtain compensation for the damage they endured as a result of sexual assault.
Prosecutors have ordered the seizure of the assets belonging to the Tate brothers, which include 15 high-end vehicles, extravagant timepieces, and approximately $3 million in digital currency, as part of their ongoing investigations.
