Arizona Coyotes Introduce New “Desert Nights” Alternate Uniform

Nighttime in the desert isn’t dark; it’s burgundy

Due to the arid landscape, featuring a small amount of sand… Maroon, maroon, and additional maroon. Furthermore, there is no sign of black present; earlier today, the Arizona Coyotes unveiled their freshly designed “Desert Nights” alternative jersey. To be honest, I would be astonished if that were true; I cannot confirm it with certainty, though.

The team recently disposed of the uniforms in addition to improving the overall design and color scheme. However, the uniform itself is still pretty good and the silly name has been removed.

Rhuigi Villaseñor, the Creative Strategist for the Coyotes, as well as the creative director at Bally and the founder and creative director of Rhude, a streetwear brand based in Los Angeles, was the designer behind this fresh Coyotes uniform.

Villaseñor stated that the inspiration for my third jersey design came from the roots of culture – the clay and colors of AZ, the community, and the environment. I feel honored to pioneer the reimagining of sport and culture alongside the Coyotes.

The new sweater features a wordmark scripted “Arizona” with a star dotting the letter “i”, representing the starry nights in the desert when coyotes are on the hunt. The messy lettering of “Arizona” is being explained as a tribute to the raw and rough desert.

Originally introduced in the late 1990s, the Coyotes’ original alternate uniform initially showcased a set of small geckos on the shoulder patch. The inner back collar displays these geckos and has a sand-colored hue. There are no patches on the shoulders. The club’s Kachina-style striping is a simplified, monochromatic rendition of the sleeve and waist striping.

We are currently having a great time. The captain’s alternate logo on the Coyotes’ uniform is a favorite part of mine, and it is shaped like a cactus “A” with a crescent moon as the logo. The player’s numbers and name will be in a solid color, resembling sand.

Coyotes Chief Brand Officer Alex Meruelo Jr. Expressed, “We are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see our fans and players wearing these great jerseys throughout the rest of the season, and Rhuigi did an incredible job capturing the essence of Arizona with this design.” “We are even more excited about introducing our new third jersey, which complements our classic Kachina sweater that our amazing fans are already enthusiastic about.”

The ensemble will be fully coordinated, with burgundy helmets, pants, and socks covering the entire body. Rather than a conventional stripe, a prominent cactus will be displayed on the right side of the pants. The sweater will exhibit identical Kachina striping to match the socks.

During that period, it will be frequently worn and will remain in use for multiple seasons as it is officially designated as a “third uniform.” Throughout the latter half of the 2022-23 season, the Coyotes will don this attire a total of fourteen times. The new uniform will make its debut this upcoming Sunday against the Vegas Golden Knights, representing Arizona.
