Atlanta United to face Deportivo Toluca F.C. and launch new primary kit at 2023 American Family Insurance Cup Feb. 15

United Atlanta announced today that they will face F.C. Toluca Deportivo of Mexico’s MX Liga in the Cup Insurance Family American 2023. Atlanta’s official club kit has been the partner of Insurance Family American since its founding and remains so since Atlanta’s inaugural season in 2017. The match will be locally broadcasted on Game The 92-9 Radio Sports TV Peachtree. The club also plans to provide fans in attendance with the opportunity to purchase the new kit, and they will unveil their new kit on Feb. 15, with planned in-game and pre-game activations.

Lagerwey“We are thrilled to welcome Toluca for the second American Family Insurance Cup,” said Atlanta United President and CEO Garth Lagerwey. “Thanks to our outstanding partnership with American Family Insurance, we’re able to deliver another exciting match for our supporters while testing ourselves against an international club ahead of the 2023 MLS campaign. This year’s match will also be highlighted by the debut of our new primary kit, which we anticipate will give our supporters a fun and memorable kickoff event.”

American Family Insurance Cup 2022Season ticket members will receive the right of first refusal for the American Family Insurance Cup and all home League’s Cup matches. If members do not wish to take advantage of this opportunity to retain their same seats for all non-MLS League matches, they must opt out by Dec. 22. Single Match ticket on-sale for American Family Insurance Cup and the first League’s Cup match will be announced at a later date.

In June, Atlanta United emerged victorious over C.F. Pachuca, who concluded the 2022 Apertura campaign as the second-place team behind the champions, in the inaugural American Family Insurance Cup. Toluca, a renowned champion of the Liga MX with ten titles to their name, is set to face Atlanta United for the very first time in the 2023 American Family Insurance Cup.

Despite finishing sixth in the regular season league table, Toluca battled their way through the newly expanded Mexican playoff format, knocking off Juárez in a single match in the round reclassification, defeating Laguna Santos in the quarterfinals with an aggregate score of 6-4, and eventually losing to América Club in the semifinals with a combined score of 3-2 over both legs. Despite this, Toluca ended up as the runners-up in the Copa MX, also known as the Concacaf Champions League, after winning the tournament, marking their eighth time as champions of Mexico.

Smith“We were so pleased with the success of the inaugural American Family Insurance Cup and look forward to another thrilling competition in February,” said Sherina Smith, chief marketing officer, American Family Insurance and Main Street America. “We’re honored to be the team’s official kit partner, excited to unveil the new kit as part of the American Family Insurance Cup event and proud to support the dreams of Atlanta United, their fans and the Atlanta community.”
