Last year, unnamed sources reported in The Wall Street Journal that Elon Musk had an alleged affair with Nicole Shanahan, who reportedly described it as “utterly debilitating.”
Last year, Shanahan’s lawyer referred to the narrative as a “blatant falsehood” in a formal statement. Musk posted a photograph of himself at a gathering with Brin and referred to the article as “complete nonsense” on Twitter. The report published by The Journal had mentioned several sources claiming that a romantic involvement had resulted in a strain in the long-standing friendship between Musk and Brin, ultimately leading to Shanahan and the Google co-founder filing for divorce. At that time, Brin’s attorney chose not to provide any comments. Shanahan, a legal professional and the former spouse of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, vehemently denied the alleged affair.
Following the Journal’s article, Shanahan is now addressing the entire controversy in an interview with People that was released on Wednesday– her inaugural comprehensive interview.
The attorney inquired about Musk’s knowledge of autism treatment because of his involvement with Neuralink, a company that aims to create a brain-computer interface allowing individuals to communicate solely through their thoughts. Shanahan once again refuted any claims of a romantic or sexual relationship with Musk, stating that their discussions were strictly professional. She explained that their conversations centered around finding ways to assist her daughter, who has autism. Previously, Musk has expressed the idea that Neuralink’s brain chips could potentially provide a solution for autism and schizophrenia.
Shanahan expressed to People that “Being branded with such a tremendous scarlet symbol for it just appears so unjust.” It was a significant discussion concerning existence and how individuals support each other.
Shanahan stated that during the period when the report of the supposed romantic involvement surfaced last year, she mentioned that the two individuals were no longer together. According to Shanahan’s statement to People, she clarified that she has just recently finalized her divorce with Brin, following a legal procedure that lasted for 17 months.
She stated, “I recall sensing as though all of my previous efforts were being attacked by a media cycle that had no understanding of my personal life and identity,” she informed People. “It was completely paralyzing,” she expressed, “to be recognized solely due to a sexual encounter is one of the most degrading experiences.”
Shanahan, Musk, and spokespersons for Brin did not promptly reply to a request for commentary from Insider prior to publication.
A representative for the Journal stated: “We have full confidence in our sources, and we support our journalism.”
She said that she learned about the scandal from the attorney who founded the Bia-Echo Foundation, along with the fact that she struggled to adapt to the billionaire lifestyle.
According to Shanahan, being a billionaire often leads to a feeling of “disconnectedness” and a lack of connection to the community. He further explained that it is extremely challenging to maintain a strong sense of rootedness while possessing immense wealth.
Planeta Ventures, a venture capital firm, contacted her latest company, referring to her early career and initial encounter with Brin at Stanford University, covering a variety of subjects that Shanahan discussed during the interview.
