Many cases can result in innocent people being unjustly declared guilty due to errors in the judicial system. Furthermore, not all convicted individuals receive the same sentence, which is not an equitable punishment, as death penalty is considered a form of justice for everyone. One of the most common arguments in favor of the death penalty is that it provides justice for the families and victims.
Many studies have shown that the rate of violent crimes does not decrease with the death penalty. In fact, there are other forms of punishment that are more effective in deterring crime. There is no conclusive evidence that the death penalty deters serious crimes. However, some consider the death penalty to be a deterrent for committing other grave offenses, making it another argument in favor of it.
The death penalty, which has been frequently used throughout the centuries, is known in Spain. The Spanish executioners were known for their cruel execution methods, such as the vile garrote and the gallows, as well as decapitation with an axe. For many years, this brutal method was used to execute the condemned, especially as a last resort.
The vil garrote consisted of a bar of iron placed around the condemned’s neck, with a chair in which they were placed. The executioner would twist the bar to cause a painful and slow suffocation by tightening it.
However, despite the darkness of these stories, there are some aspects that are curious and interesting.
After Franco’s death in 1974, the position of executioner was officially abolished. Just a few months later, in 1983, Luis José Heras las de executed his last person, serving as the last Spanish executioner.
The obvious penalty for violating all fundamental human rights is the death penalty, which is as unsettling as it is universally prevalent and inherently violates our shared history.
