He has undoubtedly impacted the life of someone he may have never directly encountered, making it incredibly challenging to find an individual who is both resilient and benevolent, possessing exceptional abilities and a willingness to give. From that point onwards, he committed the next 64 years of his life not only to the residents of this place but also to the entire city. Upon his arrival in Aransas Pass as a young undertaker in 1949, he instantaneously developed a deep affection for the community and its people. Having achieved the status of Valedictorian, he successfully completed his studies at Landig College of Mortuary Sciences in 1947. Throughout World War II, he served on a military vessel in the South Pacific and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. As the son of a Methodist minister, he obtained his high school diploma in Raymondville, Texas in 1940.
Charlie Marshall, the owner of Inc. Crematory & Funeral Homes, served as a Trustee for the Independent School District of Aransas Pass and Rockport. He held the longest-standing position as a member of a school board in the United States, serving as a Trustee for the Aransas Pass Independent School District for 54 years. Additionally, he was appointed by four governors and served as the president of the State of Texas Morticians Board. In 1999, he received recognition from the Texas Funeral Directors Association for his 50 years of service. He was also a founding member of the Associated Charities of Pass Aransas, now known as Tri-County Christian Services, where he served as president for over 30 years. Charlie Marshall was actively involved in the community and served on the Board of Directors for the Aransas Pass Public Library and the Trust Property Overbid Trustee. He was a founding member and served on the Board of Directors for the Memorial Seamen’s Tower Committee. In 1972, he received the Citizen of the Year award for Pass Aransas and was the past president of the Pass Aransas Chamber of Commerce. He was also honored with the Murl Smith Award in 1981. Charlie Marshall was a former member of the San Patricio County Public Affairs Committee and a founding member of the Oak Live Country Club’s Board of Directors. He had been a member of the Pass Aransas Masonic Lodge #1018 since 1949 and served as the past president of the 20-30 Club of Pass Aransas, where he also served on the original Charter Committee. He served on the Board of Directors for the Tri-County Emergency Medical Services and Hospice Aim, and was a founding member of both organizations. In 1997, the Charlie Marshall Elementary School was named and built in his honor. He received numerous letters of appreciation and recognition from state and national dignitaries, including U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson, U.S. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, U.S. Senator Phil Gramm, and former Presidents George W.
