Damar Hamlin Update: Relative Says Breathing Has Improved for Bills Safety

The condition of Damar Hamlin, the Buffalo Bills safety who went into cardiac arrest after a hit on the football field in Cincinnati on Monday night, is still being awaited by the country, with collective breath held.

The next day, there were encouraging results “and it seems like there is some improvement” according to a report from doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The report was provided by Jordon Rooney, who is Hamlin’s business manager and friend, on Wednesday morning.

Hamlin continues to be sedated and in critical condition, as confirmed by Rooney to ESPN’s Coley Harvey.

The NFL postponed the Tuesday game due to an unprecedented situation that unfolded live on national television or on the field, which was widely understood to be a struggle for America, as well as for their teammates and coaches in the world of sports beyond.

“A vigil started to expand outside the UC Medical Center, adorned with his Number 3, signs displaying “Pray for Hamlin,” and flickering candles in the darkness.”

On Tuesday evening, Dorrian Glenn, who is Hamlin’s uncle, gave an update on the safety of the Buffalo Bills, stating that Hamlin is still under sedation in the Intensive Care Unit at UC Medical Center. He mentioned that Hamlin’s condition has progressed from requiring 100% oxygen to needing only 50% oxygen, although he is still on a ventilator.

“To encourage him, they’re helping him attempt to breathe independently. The NFL network informed Glenn that his progress is being monitored on a daily basis. I am extremely grateful to the medical staff for their hard work in taking care of him. They have truly been amazing in assisting his recovery.”

Glenn disclosed that Hamlin had to be revived twice — once on the pitch and once at the medical facility.

“It’s been devastating. I haven’t slept yet. I’ve been awake for approximately 24 hours now,” Glenn informed NFL Network.

Glenn said it has been “tremendous” to see all the support Hamlin has received, including millions of dollars that have been donated.

Glenn expressed to NFL Network, “Witnessing the immense amount of affection he received and having the opportunity to potentially overcome a dire circumstance is genuinely remarkable. Many individuals are not fortunate enough to comprehend the extent of their adoration during their lifetime.”

On Tuesday, Jordon Rooney, a marketing representative, tweeted a statement earlier in the afternoon, asking everyone in native Pennsylvania to keep the injured player’s family in their prayers and to share any new updates or information that becomes available regarding the planned hospital briefings.

The remainder of the Bills players and coaches returned to Buffalo. The 12-3 AFC East team stated early on Tuesday that the 24-year-old Hamlin had been sedated and would receive further medical assessment. Later in the day, they issued an updated statement revealing that he had spent the night in the intensive care unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

According to the Bills, his state had not altered from critical.

He is currently in critical condition and sedated, as tweeted by the Buffalo Bills shortly before 2 a.M. He has been transferred to the UC Medical Center for further treatment and testing after suffering a cardiac arrest following a hit during our game against the Bengals. His heartbeat has been restored on the field.

The National Football League (NFL) confirmed that there are no plans to make any alterations to the Week 18 schedule. According to the NFL, the matchup between the Bills and Bengals, which was delayed due to Hamlin’s collapse, has not yet been assigned a new date. This announcement was made by the NFL on Tuesday.

The NFL Players Association, the union for the league, concurred with the NFL’s decision to delay.

In a statement Tuesday, the NFLPA stated that its main concern was “solely on the well-being of our fellow member, Damar Hamilton.”

It stated that in order to deal with the situation involving their coworker, it collaborated with the association and both the Bills and Bengals to guarantee that players had access to every possible resource.
