The British rock star, known for his prickly demeanor, walked offstage about 30 minutes into his Saturday night show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, where he was performing on his second night of the concert tour. The disappointing news comes days after.
As per fan footage shared on Twitter, prior to departing, he addressed the audience saying, “As I believe you are aware, it is exceedingly chilly.” “I am able to perceive it. Are you able to as well? Nevertheless, we will persevere. Only God knows our destination.”
The temperature in Los Angeles had dipped to about 49 degrees that night and reportedly was in the mid-50s during the set.
According to reports, the band member then left the stage and came back to address the audience. Morrissey went on to perform for a while afterwards.
As the audience grew visibly agitated, he expressed, “Regrets. We will meet again in the future. Profoundly apologetic. The performance will not proceed, however, because of unforeseen events. Apologies.”
At the concert, a fan tweeted, “my mother CAUTIONED ME,” and subsequently concluded the performance, performed five songs, lit a cigarette while on stage, and emerged wearing a T-shirt featuring his own image, encapsulating the Morrissey concert.
Another individual expressed, “In the meantime, the temperature is in the 50s. Evidently, he felt excessively chilly. Consequently, Morrissey abruptly departed from the stage at Greek Theatre after performing for only 30 minutes.”
On Sunday, Morrissey expressed gratitude to his followers on Instagram but did not provide any clarification regarding the halt in the show.
“He penned a message, requesting everyone to wait momentarily for additional updates. “We deeply appreciate your backing and hold great affection for you. We extend our gratitude for your presence last night in Los Angeles.”
The post on Instagram earlier was flooded with comments from fans, although commenting was disabled. Many complaints were voiced about not receiving refunds, prompting the Greek Theatre to say that the show is being canceled rather than postponed.
One comment stated, “I didn’t even have time to finish the show before it ended, and they are asking for $30 for a drink. Can they please refund me? I just want a refund. The Greek Theater’s website is showing that the show is postponed. I am so disappointed!”
Another comment expressed, “Individuals make compromises to participate in these performances. More than $1,500 spent on tickets and parking. We are extremely disappointed about the show being abruptly terminated.”
Another one was added, with the phrase “No encore or a pleasant evening,” and then they just left! They performed for a duration of 1 hour and 20 minutes if that’s accurate, and they were over an hour late. I am still feeling let down from last night’s performance! I woke up this morning.
Another Instagram user expressed, “you are such a letdown. Financial resources are limited for everyone in the current times, and individuals had set aside money to attend your show. If you’re unable to fulfill the commitment, it might be better to cease touring.”
However, other supporters, some of whom have disregarded the singer’s growing conservative ideology throughout the years, were more understanding.
“Many people, who are apparently big fans of Morrissey, are so angry at him for committing an unforgivable crime that it makes them sad,” expressed a Twitter user. “I absolutely think it’s right that a man in his 60’s, whose well-being is a priority, should go to show a rescheduling, even if it means a change of plans.”
The Greek Theatre representatives did not promptly reply to The Times’ inquiry for a statement.
