TRL’s Eleanor Koehn reviews the film “Don’t Worry Darling.” Although the movie features a star-studded cast, the movie falls short in originality.
On September 23rd, a star-studded psychological thriller movie titled “Darling Worry Don’t” was released in theaters. The cast of this film includes iconic actors such as Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, and Chris Pine, who bring a new and somewhat different perspective to the world of acting.
When I went to see the movie, I was still completely interested in how it would turn out, even though many people disregarded and put it down. Throughout the filming process, actors like Florence Pugh refused to promote the movie in any way after Wilde’s false statements. However, Olivia Wilde denies that she fired him, claiming that he quit the film quickly after experiencing Olivia’s production style. When the movie was first announced, Shia LaBeouf was cast in the main role of Jack. Due to the controversial role of Olivia Wilde as the producer, the internet was filled with skepticism and curiosity prior to the movie’s release. But don’t worry, “The Darling” has appeared all over the internet at the same time, and I was both curious and skeptical when I went to see the movie.
In the movie called “The Victory”, set in an idealistic town called Victory in the 1950s, one of the main characters, Florence Alice Pugh, prepares a perfectly cooked three-course dinner for her husband when he returns from his job. However, something is wrong underneath the utopian-esque appearance, as clues start to notice that the man goes to work from 9-5 in this town.
While I cannot give away too much else, I can provide an overall review of the pros and cons of this movie without revealing the plot twist.
The entire movie is imbued with a spooky atmosphere, rendering the set unsettling and unnatural to behold on certain occasions. The flawless composition of hues captivates the viewer’s gaze, and each scene boasts a stunning and meticulously crafted set, which served as one of its major highlights.
There is something that you simply cannot identify that should not be present. Even when everything appears to be ordinary, the eerie atmosphere trails Pugh from the initial moment. In “Don’t Worry Darling,” the entire film revolves around a solitary startling moment. In many psychological suspense movies, the screenwriters accomplished a remarkable task of gradually intensifying the tension in conjunction with the arrangement of the settings.
However, before going into the movie, I was excited to see something different but similar to movies like “Inception” and “The Truman Show” in the search results. Don’t worry, the movie “Darling” has already been done, but I could guess that it was going to happen differently, miles away from this kind of movie. While the script and set design led to a hair-raising viewing experience, the actual plot twist was underwhelming.
Sitting through a full two-hour film, the plot of which was similar to that of many other psychological thrillers, proved to be not worth it. Although the cast and set design were intriguing in the trailer, I suggest waiting for its release on a streaming service, as the overall quality does not justify the ticket price. In conclusion, I do not recommend watching this movie in theaters.
