The Dylan Mulvaney and Bud Light Fiasco: Everything You Need to Know

All this excitement about Dylan Mulvaney and an American beer.

What a time to be alive. Things immediately escalated to the point of destroying watery beer cases with an AR-15 at the Rock Kid’s point, and to reiterate, a trans woman was put in the company’s marketing campaign called “Easy Carry Contest” promoted on social media by the star TikTok Dylan Mulvaney, featuring a transgender campaign from Anheuser-Busch. Right-wingers in the U.S. Have worked themselves into a veritable tizzy over the past several months.

If you need to know everything that’s up today in the U.S., It’s sadly reflective of the whole situation where acceptance and visibility of the trans community stands. We’re not bending over backwards to praise a multinational conglomerate responsible for massive pollution, though.

Who is Dylan Mulvaney

Mulvaney, a 26-year-old actor known to theater enthusiasts, has been openly discussing her experiences and challenges during her “second puberty” in a video diary series called “Days of Girlhood” since March 2022. With an audience of millions, Mulvaney, who may be familiar to theater gays from her previous role in the touring production of The Book of Mormon, shares candidly about her journey. If you’re not an avid TikTok user, you might not be familiar with Dylan Mulvaney (we understand, there are countless influencers to keep track of nowadays).

She needed someone else to carry her purse, in which she had tampons for her throat. She jumped down on the absurdity of conservatives expressing their gender labeling and calling her a fake “woman” on a national scale. Mulvaney singled out Sen. Marsha Blackburn and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, among other Congressional Republicans, for their transphobic harassment. NowThis, an online news publication, interviewed President Biden after Mulvaney sponsored or supported her. Whoever offers her sponsorships or support, Mulvaney will yell at them and mock them, and right-wingers will follow her and harass her. Mulvaney has worked with brands including Kate Spade, Instacart, Beauty, Ulta, and others, as her endorsements began rolling in on social media.

Simply put, Dylan Mulvaney embodies nearly everything that the extreme right despises about transgender individuals in one outspoken and convenient package.

What was the collaboration between Bud Light and Dylan Mulvaney about

An assortment of pronouns featuring Pride-themed cans, a unique collection launched by the company at the same time; Mulvaney shared a sponsored video in April 2023, in which she is dressed up as Audrey Hepburn and jokes about March Madness, to advertise the competition. Anheuser-Busch collaborated with Mulvaney to enhance their “Easy Carry Contest,” providing customers an opportunity to win $15,000 by uploading videos of themselves carrying as many beer cans as they can.

Anheuser-Busch also sent Mulvaney a special can of Bud Light featuring her face and a message on the top of the can reading “Cheers to 365 Days of Being a Woman,” to enhance the offer and commemorate Mulvaney’s transition, referencing Mulvaney’s introduction in her “Days of Girlhood” series.

What caused the campaign to be controversial

Some individuals suggested that she was a sexual offender, Conservative commentator John Cardillo misidentified and belittled Mulvaney in a tweet branding her “an adult man who dresses like young girls,” at the heart of the anger was the right’s usual dislike for anything considered “woke,” whether it is the inclusion of Black individuals in history or pronouns they are unfamiliar with. Conservative individuals, furious to an extent not witnessed since the Gillette and Nike “progressive” advertisements, turned to social media in a frenzy to express their disapproval of Mulvaney’s collaboration with Budweiser and to demand a boycott.

The general public is not available for purchase and it was a present to commemorate a personal achievement. The company also clarified that Mulvaney’s beverage was a gift to celebrate a personal milestone and is not available for purchase. Anheuser-Busch dismissed any rumors that they were upset, describing their partnership with Mulvaney as just one of many influencers who enable the brand to “genuinely connect with audiences across different demographics and areas of interest” in a statement to FOX News. This was clearly false, as quickly verified by the Associated Press. Some even went as far as spreading an online rumor that Anheuser-Busch had laid off their entire marketing team in response to the online criticism.

Alright, but what was Kid Rock’s involvement in the Bud Light/ Dylan Mulvaney boycott?

This is the kind of situation where Rock Kid, the biggest star in country music, took a page out of the Republican playbook and brought out his brand-new sneakers, signaling his displeasure to us. Whether it’s smashing a machine, burning a perfectly usable coffee or boycotting every branded item they love, Conservatives never fail to announce their macabre and eye-rolling little ways.

He concluded, ‘Screw Bud Light, and screw Anheuser-Busch,'” before lifting the gun and shooting a magazine into four cases of Bud Light placed on a nearby table, the singer wearing a MAGA cap said in an April 3 Instagram video, “Let me express something to all of you and be as straightforward and precise as I can.”

Frankly, if conservatives were to treat transgender people with less violent rhetoric, the recent mass shooting in Nashville would not be seen as an inspiration for actual mass shootings. It is also worth noting that the video stands as evidence that transgender individuals are used as political fodder in the war on conservative political platforms.

The tweet accompanied by footage from a security camera still captures the shooting of the day. These students are running for safety to avoid getting shot by the 15-year-old who killed her daughter, Jaime, under the black oval. Fred Guttenberg, the father of a child who was killed in the Parkland school shooting in 2018, wrote on Twitter today, “Hey @KidRock, this is dad’s little frisky feeling. The start of Rock’s Kid’s video referencing the shooting received its own backlash response.”

“Ensure that no intolerant individuals have access to consume prejudiced beverages.” With the comment “This is ultimately the way to expose him, by sharing a meme regarding Coors’ LGBTQ+ inclusive policies. Fellow artist Jason Isbell also criticized Kid Rock.”

If there weren’t enough beers to get on the action, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene had tweeted on April 8th, “So, it’s made from chill to here on out.” The missive was accompanied by a photo of the trunk of a loaded car with groceries. “I would have bought the king of beers, but it changed its gender to queen,” she added. Additionally, the Canadian-American company that owns Coors Light has a long history of supporting the LGBTQ+ community, including a 20-year partnership with Pride Denver to promote inclusivity in bars.

How did the dispute become so fierce?

“The beer, in its limited edition ‘since-shelved’ koozies drink, is fundraising for The Beast Daily. It is identified as water, according to one of the biggest donors of its parent company, Bud Light. Mulvaney, directly attacking the NRCC, briefly attempted to whip up hatred towards transgender people, finding a perfect excuse to do so. His deleted tweet was quickly posted by the Republican National Congressional Committee in April, causing outrage among right-wing politicians and pundits.”

Megyn Kelly, a former host of Fox News, criticized the acceptance of the “wokeness” concept in her podcast with the same name on that particular day. On April 17, the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, once again targeted transgender female athletes by creating a parody of Bud Light’s “Real Men of Genius” advertisements. Republican Party members spent valuable time on Earth by targeting Mulvaney for his involvement in the partnership.

The guy who decided to protest Mulvaney’s involvement with Light Bud beer brand’s cases covering Tampax boxes is not your average right-winger, and he is much better at upholding them. The potential reference to transphobes’ anger towards Mulvaney carrying tampons in public with her is definitely something that anyone in her position needs to consider.

So, did Anheuser-Busch address this entire debacle?

Instead of directly addressing the controversy or showing support for Mulvaney, CEO Brendan Whitworth of Anheuser-Busch released a lackluster statement on April 14th that has significantly see-sawed in response. However, yes, the statement has unfolded as controversy. Instead, Whitworth offered a hollow promise, stating that he is focused on protecting and building on our remarkable heritage and history.

The statement continued, “We are people who come together over beer, bringing business people into the discussion.” The intention was never for us to be a part of a discussion that divides people.

In late April, the Wall Street Journal reported that two marketing executives from Anheuser-Busch had been placed on leave, amid controversy and division within the company. The company was facing declining sales of Bud Light, as well as pressure and uproar from right-wing critics. This situation also sparked criticism from LGBTQ+ allies and advocates, highlighting the company’s standing in the midst of the controversy.

Shortly afterward, Anheuser-Busch announced that it would be donating $200,000 to the Initiative Color of Communities under the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), in an effort to create equal economic opportunities for small LGBTQ+ businesses and support the development of business and certification scholarships for the community, particularly QTPOC-owned. In a letter sent in late May, Anheuser-Busch was notified by the Human Rights Campaign that if the company did not take further substantive steps, they would be at risk of losing their perfect Corporate Equality Index score.

How did Dylan Mulvaney react to the dispute?

Mulvaney addressed the controversy surrounding her Bud Light collaboration for the first time on April 28 in a social media video. After what must have been an incredibly bizarre month of witnessing transphobic individuals shoot cans of Bud Light due to a simple advertisement, Mulvaney expressed feeling “very dissociative” during the preceding weeks.

Mulvaney stated, as a means of clarifying her lack of response, “The noise was so overpowering that I didn’t feel included in the discussion, therefore I made the choice to assume a passive role and allow them to exhaust themselves.”

She directly addressed her fans, stating, “Bringing joy to others,” Mulvaney criticized the apparent “desire of the right wing to depersonalize and inflict harm.”

She expressed her desire to move forward and share parts of herself that are still hoping to be exciting and have nothing to do with her identity here.

Hold on, did Ted Cruz attempt to involve the Senate?

Ted Cruz

Somehow, the Republican fit of anger regarding the beer advertisement featuring a transgender influencer persists.

Mulvaney Dylan, in partnership with Anheuser-Busch, wrote a letter to the Beer Institute, a national trade association representing major American brewers, asking them to conduct an open investigation into governmental matters. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Senator Cruz decided to get involved in the controversy over the marketing of beer on May 17. They note that it is unfortunate that America’s favorite senator, at least, is involved in this issue.

The Zapruder film should be treated like a TikTok feed, with a pre-pubescent girl presenting a persona and analyzing it. In this context, Mulvaney’s letter accuses Blackburn and Cruz of degrading and insulting him, but it mostly seems to be an excuse. However, alcohol marketing should be targeted towards an audience that is significantly older than the legal drinking age, as the influencer’s audience “skews younger.” It is also worth noting that Mulvaney’s letter repeatedly uses incorrect pronouns, which were written under the pretense of being under the influence of alcohol.

The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, on which both individuals are members, is being requested by Cruz and Blackburn to send documents concerning the marketing collaboration. Ted Cruz is universally unpopular, creating an opportune moment to reiterate this fact to the global community. In 2016, his Republican counterpart Lindsey Graham humorously remarked, “If you eliminated Ted Cruz on the Senate floor, and the trial took place in the Senate, no one would find you guilty.”.

Has Bud Light ever contacted Dylan?

Did never brand the but her to out reach to Light Bud for waited she backlash more of fear for out speaking on back held had she that said Mulvaney anyone on wish wouldn’t that loneliness a felt have and followed been’ve I’ve public in ridiculed been have I’ve house my leave to scared been’ve I’ve now months for.Output: She had been waiting for months to reach out to Light Bud, but she was scared to leave her house. She felt a loneliness that she had never experienced before, and she had been ridiculed in public. She didn’t wish for anyone, including Mulvaney, to speak out on her behalf, fearing even more backlash.

“In my opinion, hiring a transgender person is not worse than hating them or facing them with the intention to abandon, as Mulvaney added.”

She expressed, “Furthermore, the animosity does not stop with me; it carries significant and severe ramifications for the broader community.” Since it allows individuals to freely exhibit transphobia and malice.

So, did Anheuser-Busch simply attempt to move

Until now, it hasn’t precisely succeeded, but indeed. The company initiated several sports-themed promotional initiatives for the July 4th celebration, comprising a brief television advertisement showcasing NFL star Travis Kelce and a range of Ken Griffey, Jr. Products in anticipation of this year’s MLB All-Star Game. However, both were met with disapproval from the brand’s conservative followers, who pledged further boycotts of the beer and even the sports personalities.

Without even mentioning Mulvaney’s name, Whitworth earnestly expressed concern for the impact on the employees, which greatly affects him. He urged boycotters not to harm the 65,000 employees of his company and stressed the company’s political impartiality during a nine-minute interview on CBS Mornings last month. However, Budweiser’s CEO (who has a background in the CIA) has publicly addressed the boycotts, which may not be advantageous. Neither athlete has done so.

Are the Bud Light protests effective?

In June, Modelo Especial dethroned Bud Light as the best-selling beer in the U.S. Among retailers for the second consecutive month, although Bud Light still held an advantage in sales by quantity. As stated in a CNN report (which regrettably displayed one reporter misidentifying Mulvaney several times), it is evident that the brand’s sales are experiencing a significant decline, plummeting by 28% in June, whether consumers are boycotting Bud Light due to the employment of Mulvaney or due to their abandonment of her.

However, despite what people say, it is still true that many individuals who are boycotting Bud Light are actually following through, including at least one of our favorite players in this whole saga – Mr. Rock Kid, a Nashville musician who investigated the bar’s sale of Bud Light and found that it was still on sale for much too high of a price at the Roll N’ Rock Tonk Honky Ass Big Steakhouse. Even CNN investigated this whole saga and discovered that TikTok is grandstanding on a moral high-caliber.

After spending a year revealing her journey to the public, the popular TikTok influencer discusses her future plans with Them.

What does the future hold for Dylan

Following the Bud Light mishap, Dylan Mulvaney is contemplating her future in light of the conclusion of her “Days of Girlhood” video series. Mulvaney pondered over the immensely popular social media chronicle in a featured article for Them’s Now Awards. She conveyed a desire to “give myself a gentle reminder, just before I created that video, the initial one, and simply ensure that you are in a positive state and secure, and that you have engaged in the necessary discussions with the individuals you must communicate with before addressing the public.”

She stated, “I want all the dolls that the brand deals with. It’s just not enough to hire me as a skinny white transgender girl. They should also work with other transgender people, not just me. If a brand wants to work with me, they should also work with other transgender individuals. She emphasized that she wants to use her privilege to pay it forward. Her series of videos on the internet has created plenty of opportunities for Mulvaney, making her one of the most visible transgender women online.”

It is unclear what exactly Mulvaney will do next. “So, at the moment, I’m contemplating longevity — how can I have a career that lasts for the next 40 years?” She informed Them. “And how can I find happiness outside of social media? Because that’s what I believe I am training my mind to discover: All the other aspects of my life need to be just as significant as that one.”
