Dynasty Trade Targets (August 2023)

Take a look at this compilation of dynasty trade targets – or players to offload – before the 2023 season.

The Lions’ offense achieved impressive success last season with OC Ben Johnson.

Meanwhile, Quarterback Kyler Murray is undergoing rehabilitation for a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) that he suffered in Week 14.

They ranked:.

  • Ranked among the top 10 in terms of average passing yards per game (251.8) and the rate of explosive passes.
  • Ranked fifth in overall yards per game (380.0) and scoring per game (26.6).
  • And leading in drive success rate.
  • Goff concluded the season ranking 15th in fantasy points per game. Out of the 24 quarterbacks with a minimum of 400 dropbacks, he secured the fifth position in adjusted completion percentage (77.8%) and passer rating (99.3).

    Offensive Upgrades

During the offseason, the Lions made significant investments in the supporting ensemble. They secured the services of RB David Montgomery with a lucrative three-year, $18 million deal. Moreover, they selected RB Jahmyr Gibbs as the 12th overall pick and TE Sam LaPorta as the 34th pick in the draft.

Montgomery likely won’t be much of a factor in the passing game, but both Gibbs and LaPorta profile as potential difference makers.

Gibbs’ intriguing college production, particularly his 103 receptions across three seasons, makes him a noteworthy RB to share targets with ninth-ranked Goff in 2022, accounting for 20.4% of the RBs.

Additionally, WR Jameson Williams is expected to strengthen the offense following his six-game suspension.

This upgraded group of weapons should theoretically help Goff be even better.

Goff recorded the fifth-highest rate of dropped passes among quarterbacks (7.5%) on his accurate throws last season.

Goff is ranked as the 18th quarterback on KeepTradeCut and the 20th quarterback in DLF’s July superflex ADP.

    Sample Trade:

Side A: Jared Goff (superflex PPR worth: 41).

    Side B: Desmond Ridder (worth: 29) + 2024 mid third-round rookie selection (worth: 10).

Dynasty Trade Target: Keenan Allen, WR, Chargers

There is a significant overlap between Allen’s argument for revising and considering the purchase of a dynasty.

Quentin Johnston, the wide receiver selected by the Chargers in the first round of the NFL Draft on April 31, made sure not to forget the importance of consistency.

Allen has achieved a ranking of 13th or higher in PPR points per game every year since 2017.

  • 2017: fourth.
  • 2018: 12th.
  • 2019: eighth.
  • 2020: sixth.
  • 2021: 13th.
  • 2022: 12th.
  • Unfortunately, he disappointed fantasy managers last year by being absent for seven games due to a persistent hamstring injury. However, he managed to recover and regain his previous level of performance in the remaining eight games.

Among all wide receivers, Allen ranked second, accumulating 60 receptions, 675 yards in receiving, and 4 touchdowns from a total of 83 targets. During that period, his Pro Football Focus receiving grade positioned him at the seventh spot.

    2023 Outlook

There should be more excitement brought by Kellen Moore, the OC of the Cowboys’ top-10 ranked offense, as he attempts to pass in four seasons. He should also be a big-time contributor again, paired with Justin Herbert, the new QB of the Chargers’ offense.

Do not worry about the impact of Johnston being a rookie. Allen primarily plays in the receiver slot, and during his three years at TCU, Johnston only registered a rate of 10.4% in the slot.

Allen is a no-brainer veteran add for any contending manager at WR40 on KeepTradeCut and WR33 in the current DLF superflex ADP.

    Sample Trade:

Keenan Allen from Team A has a PPR value of 37 in the 1-QB format.

    Option B: 2024 late second-round newcomer selection (value: 18) + 2025 second-round newcomer selection (value: 18).

Dynasty Trade Target: Stefon Diggs, WR, Bills

That mini-camp disagreement from June turned out to be a non-concern.

Seasoned managers competing for titles who are looking for a player with a slightly lower age than Allen should contemplate Diggs as a superb choice for a trade that will benefit their team in the long run, particularly in dynasty leagues.

In 2022, Diggs finished in the top-5 for both game per points PPR and points PPR total. He also tied with Davante Adams, WR for the Raiders, with a career-high 9.3 yards per target and 11 touchdowns. Additionally, Diggs ranks second in targets (484) and leads the league in catches (338) over the past three seasons.

In 2022, Diggs achieved a top-7 ranking in both yards per route run and PFF receiving grade.

During this offseason, the sole notable alteration in target rivalry has been the inclusion of Dalton Kincaid, a first-round tight end. His agreement remains valid for an additional five years.

Diggs is currently ranked as WR15 in our dynasty rankings, based on his ADP in July and being drafted in superflex leagues.

The only possible drawback for Diggs is his age. At 32 and beyond his peak, we can expect him to produce at least 85% better, as our dynasty projections show. This is supported by the data from the aging curve, which underscores his power.

Are you seeking to elevate a competitive team to the next level? Here’s the person you need.

    HOLD Brandon Aiyuk, WR, 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are filled with skilled athletes, with limited opportunities to distribute.

Aiyuk is coming off a stellar 2022 season, finishing 23rd in running routes per yard (1.82) and receiving a grade of 18th from PFF. He also had a career-high in receiving touchdowns (8), receiving yards (1,015), and catches (78) on 78 targets.

In 2022, the 49ers placed only 26th in pass attempts, as he concluded 25th among wide receivers in PPR points per game (13.4) and 23rd in non-PPR (8.8).

Distributing that low-volume passing offense among running back Christian McCaffrey, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, and tight end George Kittle is his primary focus.

    Remember: Situations Change

As mentioned earlier regarding Murray (and Dynasty Strategy in general): Do not overestimate the current situation of the 49ers.

Aiyuk, who turned 25 in March, has only been in the league for two years, meaning he still has more time to develop as a rookie. Our research on the aging-curve generally shows that WRs tend to reach their peak between the ages of 27 and 25.

WR22 is not far from his direction in either ADP superflex rankings in July on DLF’s and is currently ranked as WR25 on KeepTradeCut, while Aiyuk is ranked as WR20. These problems in his career are only temporary and are part of the grand scheme.

There’s no harm in practicing patience with a skilled former first-round selection.

    SELL Daniel Jones, QB, Giants

Jones showed progress in his initial year under head coach Brian Daboll.

Among 24 quarterbacks with 400 or more dropbacks, Jones completed:.

  • Ranked 16th in the PFF passing category.
  • Leading in adjusted completion rate (80.1%).
  • And 13th in completion percentage (92.0).
  • He also ranked sixth among QBs in rushing grade, fifth in rushing yards (708), and tied for third in rushing TDs (7).

Marcus Mariota, with 438 rushing yards, ranked as the sixth quarterback in terms of rushing yards in 2022.

    Giants Reward Jones

The quarterback agreed to a four-year contract valued at $160 million ($82 million guaranteed). Shouldn’t we be excited about this?

    Consider this….

Jones had a remarkable 2022 season in terms of rushing production, with a staggering 32% increase. He surpassed his previous career highs by scoring 7 touchdowns and making 120 attempts, resulting in an impressive average of 44.3 yards per game on the ground (scoring 2 touchdowns, attempting 65 times, and averaging 30.2 yards per game).

One must question the true sustainability of that production.

    What if the Rushing Declines?

In 2022, Jones should make a significant improvement in his rushing numbers as he averaged only 0.93 TDs passing per game and 200.3 yards per game on 29.5 pass attempts, acting as more of a runner.

The addition of Darren Waller, a top tight end, adds uncertainty to the Giants’ long-term plans. With large cap numbers and heading into his age-31 season, Waller carries question marks beyond 2023. Meanwhile, his pass-catching corps remains uninspiring.

Goff mentioned the QB11 KTC/QB14 (QB14 Tagovailoa QB Tua Dolphins), SF QB15 KTC/QB12 (Stroud C.J. QB Texans), QB14 KTC/QB10 (Young Bryce QB Panthers) as players with similar prices. He’s considered QB16 (Jones) and QB16 (Jones) according to the current ADP on KeepTradeCut in the superflex format.

Replace Jones with another individual to expand a agreement, why not attempt unless you’re a strong supporter? Being too expensive for dynasty managers, the act of switching to a younger quarterback or a person in a more powerful offense is not feasible.

    SELL Travis Etienne, RB, Jaguars

In the previous season, RB James Robinson shared playing time with Etienne, as Robinson received 47.9% of the team’s rushing attempts in the initial six games, whereas Etienne accumulated 32%.

The team’s utilization of the 61.4% accumulation period for their workhorse rushing was overshadowed by Etienne’s trade. Robinson, on the other hand, saw a decrease of 6.5% in carries (including two playoff games). However, Clemson’s product did manage to capture an 8.9% share of the target span.

Etienne finished 21st among RBs in targets and carries (share of opportunity) for the season, from Week 12 through the end of the 7th season.

The final phase would support his 2023 Annual Development Plan (ADP), but Head Coach Doug Pederson and third-round Running Back Tank Bigsby may argue against that burden.

In his six seasons as an NFL head coach (with the Eagles from 2016 to 2020 and the Jaguars in 2022), Pederson has only allocated over 50% of the team’s rushing attempts to a running back once, which happened with Miles Sanders in 2020 (with a percentage of 60.6%).

Sanders had the highest number of carries per game among all RBs on those teams, with 13.7 in 2020.

Bigbsy brings three seasons of production and a playing style similar to “lightning” Etienne’s to Auburn, where he is ranked in the top 5 in rushing yards behind a subpar offensive line in the SEC.

    Disconnect In Value vs. Situation

The committee in the backfield needs Pederson or Bigsby to deviate from his long record track and either fail or stray. If he carries the billing of RB10 in ADP superflex for July DLF’s, or if he wants to live up to his RB8 pricetag on KeepTradeCut, he will have to step up.

Considering what we saw from Calvin Ridley, who was a key part of the Jaguars’ attack passing in 2023, it will be challenging to rely on him this year. Additionally, we will also need to see an increase in catching passes from Etienne, looking beyond that.

Is Etienne a poor investment for fantasy purposes? No. However, he could be currently valued at his highest price. Do not hesitate to take advantage of that.

SELL Kenneth Walker III, RB, Seahawks

Walker replaced the injured Rashaad Penny in Week 5 of the previous season. From that point forward, he was ranked:

  • Ranked 13th in rushing grade by the Professional Football Federation (PFF).
  • Ranked 10th in the elusive rating.
  • And 14th in yards following contact per try.
  • … Among 34 running backs who recorded 75 or more rushing attempts.

Potential top-5 dynasty back as the offseason entered and on from Week 5, points per game (15.8) in PPR ranked 10th Walker.

Regrettably, that worth was fleeting. The Seahawks selected RB Zach Charbonnet with the 52nd overall pick.

According to a report from The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta in April, HC Pete Carroll referred to RB Charbonnet as a “complement” to Walker in the passing game, emphasizing his skill.

“[Charbonnet] can block and catch the ball out of the backfield,” Carroll said. “He’s good in the screen game. Makes big plays.”.

Charbonnet caught 61 balls over the past two seasons and ranked 13th among 119 qualifying RBs in PFF receiving grade in 2022.

    Walker Not a Strong Receiver

Following Week 5, out of the identical set of 34 running backs who accumulated 75 or more carries, he positioned 19th in terms of yards per route run (0.67) and 20th in PFF receiving grade. His target share was a meager 7.2%, and he only managed to secure 27 receptions throughout the previous season.

He also didn’t contribute significantly as a receiver during his college years, recording only 19 catches over the course of three seasons.

Can Walker serve as a productive running back for fantasy managers? Absolutely. Divided backfields are common in the NFL.

However, the cost of his RB9 on KTC and RB11 ADP on DLF does not accurately represent the potential impact of Charbonnet.

Don’t offer him garbage, but also don’t expect a route to a top-tier RB1 outcome.

Dynasty Trade Target: Antonio Gibson, RB, Commanders

2022 is a year that Gibson would likely prefer to erase from his memory.

Following the delegation of a significant amount of work to then-rookie RB Brian Robinson Jr., His numbers reached career lows in terms of touches (195), scrimmage yards (889), attempts per game (9.9), and yards per game (36.4).

Alongside Devin Singletary, Gibson concluded the previous season with an equal ranking of RB28 in terms of PPR points per game (11.1). In the 11 games they played together, Robinson Jr. Surpassed Gibson in carries with a total of 181 compared to Gibson’s 96, resulting in Gibson primarily assuming a role focused on receiving passes.

As much of a letdown as he was a year ago, there’s reason to be excited about Gibson entering 2023.

In the previous season, he achieved career highs in targets (58), receptions (46), and receiving yards (353). Out of the 43 running backs with 30 or more targets, Gibson secured the fourth position in PFF receiving rating and ranked eleventh in yards per route run (1.48), which was a significant improvement compared to his previous rankings of 37th and 21st.

Gibson’s achievement as a receiver is not a coincidence, either.

Since joining the league in 2020, Gibson is ranked 12th in targets (154), 10th in receptions (154), 11th in receiving yards (894), and 22nd in PPR points per game (13.27) among all running backs.

    More Receiving in 2023?

With then-OC Bienemy at the helm, Jerick McKinnon showcased his skills with 56 receptions, 512 receiving yards, and 9 touchdowns during his time with the Chiefs last season. It is possible that the newly appointed OC, Eric Bieniemy, can also tap into Gibson’s untapped potential.

In May, HC Ron Rivera of the Commanders mentioned that he wants RB Antonio Gibson to get more touches and wants to see how he meshes with the fourth-year back in the moving forward offense, according to a report from The Athletic’s Ben Standig.

With an RB34 cost on KeepTradeCut and DLF, there’s minimal danger.

    Sample Trade:

Side A: Antonio Gibson (superflex PPR worth: 30).

    Side B: Rashaad Penny (worth: 22) + 2024 tardy third-round selection (worth: 9).
