Everything You Need to Know About Crystal Pepsi

In the quest for capitalist supremacy, companies go to great lengths for the next big thing, but there has been no bigger disappointment than Pepsi Crystal for our society. However, for every bottle of Heinz Ketchup, there’s a bigger disappointment – Purple Squirt EZ Ketchup. And for every Deluxe Big Mac, there’s an even bigger disappointment – Heinz Ketchup.

In the 1990s, many companies were left scrambling to get their alternative “healthy” beverages onto the shelves, as they decided to make their own trend in the health industry. This was a craze marked by a personal feeling of being attacked by the health trend, and the wizards at PepsiCo attacked this trend with their ad for Snapple, claiming it to be made from the best stuff on Earth. As a result, sparkling water and seltzer became popular alternatives to soda.

The study on psychological banking found that people were more inclined to associate the flavor of a beverage with the color of food. Therefore, a clear soda that had fewer calories and was less sweet, corresponding to a lighter color mentally, resulted from replacing modified corn starch with caramel coloring, and removing the usual coloring from Pepsi’s regular Crystal bottle, which contained slightly more calories.

What were the reasons for the failure of Crystal Pepsi?

From the inadequately planned product, there was simply no opportunity for success. “It would have been preferable if I had ensured the product had a pleasing taste,” stated David C. Novak, the individual recognized for conceiving the concept of Crystal Pepsi. Similar to adding sugar to seltzer but with an extremely artificial flavor, it resides in this peculiar state between not-quite-soda and not-quite-water. Its taste is undeniably dreadful, and I am well aware of the precise reason for its failure: I had the unfortunate experience of consuming Crystal Pepsi during its initial release.

In the streets, the individuals demonstrating almost experienced a disaster. We should not hold Coca-Cola accountable, as they did not receive any negative backlash from the introduction of Pepsi Crystal. Instead, they used the well-known brand name Tab since it was specifically produced as an alternative product. Within months, Coca-Cola released Clear Tab, a sugar-free soda, targeting the same audience. Clear Tab was a Coca-Cola-owned soda. During that time, there was also a slight decline in sales for Pepsi’s Crystal, which can be attributed to the Beverage War.

After a decade, Blue Pepsi was finally released, but it turned out to be a long-lasting nightmare for our nation. Within a year, in 1992, Pepsi Crystal was introduced and the Blue Pepsi was discontinued.

Should we be concerned about the resurgence of Crystal Pepsi?

You might never know when you are able to add a cart. Keep an eye on the product page at Big Lots. But just know that Pepsi Crystal is always ready to strike when we least expect it. Thankfully, the relaunch of Pepsi Crystal in 2022 was not an actual product but only a part of a contest. While we were still reeling from the Covid pandemic, this headline sent a shiver down my spine. And we will always have the collective hope that Pepsi still owns the trademark for the name “Clear Pepsi.” Thank God.
