According to poll data exclusively provided to the Washington Examiner, the Florida Republican enjoys a net positive approval rating of 23.5% among registered voters in his district, with 48.3% who express approval, 24.8% who express disapproval, and 26.8% who are uncertain.
Within the district, approximately 19.2% of Democrats expressed disbelief towards the allegations. A total of 45% remain uncertain, 35% hold a disbelief stance, and 20% of voters indicated their belief in the allegations when questioned, “Are you of the opinion that the allegations against Representative Matt Gaetz are true?”
With a 95% level of certainty, the range of inaccuracy is approximately 4.6%. Employing a “hybrid survey” approach, it gathered data from 447 eligible voters in the 1st Congressional District of Florida between April 17 and May 2. Big Data Poll, a company that has faced disapproval from polling aggregator FiveThirtyEight due to concerns regarding its precision or methodology, carried out the survey.
Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene are initiating a series of rallies.
If the respondents trusted the narrative, the survey inquired about a sequence of inquiries that emphasized significant aspects of Gaetz’s defensive claims following the controversy surrounding him.
When asked about their level of trust in the media to accurately report the news, 7% responded by saying they had a significant amount of trust, while 17% indicated they had a moderate amount of trust. In contrast, 31.7% stated that they had very little trust, and a majority of 41.2% expressed no trust at all. Similarly, when questioned about their trust in media reports that rely on anonymous sources, only 3.7% had a significant amount of trust, whereas 12.6% had a moderate amount of trust. The majority of 33.6% had very little trust, and the highest proportion of 45.6% had no trust at all in such reports. These figures illustrate the similarity in responses regarding trust in the media across both scenarios.
When asked whether they were acquainted with those reports, 58.1% responded affirmatively while 33.9% responded negatively.
The poll asked about familiarity with the undercover video by Project Veritas, showing a technical director of CNN talking about negative stories running about Gaetz, where 49.7% were familiar and 37.2% were “propaganda.”
Richard Baris, the head of Big Data Poll, mentioned in a polling memorandum that following unfavorable reports that they have no faith in from sources they have even less faith in, voters in Florida’s First Congressional District are remaining loyal to Representative Matt Gaetz. It is important to mention that individuals who are knowledgeable about these reports actually give him better ratings. His approval rating stands at 58.0% among those who claim to be aware.
Gaetz holds a safe Republican seat in the western Panhandle of Florida, as indicated by its partisan voter index rating of R+20, according to the Cook Political Report.
Joel Greenberg, a former tax collector and associate of Gaetz in Seminole County, Florida, was indicted in 2020 on charges related to the trafficking of a minor and providing financial support to individuals in exchange for sexual activities. Following this investigation, a federal inquiry emerged to investigate whether Gaetz engaged in sexual activities with a minor or engaged in the exchange of money for sexual services. This information became public in March.
The House’s Ethics Committee has also launched an investigation to “gather additional information” concerning the accusations of Gaetz’s inappropriate behavior.
Gaetz, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and publicly denied any illegal activities, has been charged in connection with an investigation tied to a bizarre overture to his father, who was seeking a $25 million loan.
In the public domain, Gaetz is defending himself against the accusations not just by commissioning a survey evaluating his constituents’ opinions.
