Florida Legislature accused of ‘kidnapping’ trans kids after defiant protest: ‘We are officially there’

Allegedly, after a protest performance (PinkNews screenshots), children who identify as transgender were kept away from their parents.

Lawmakers in Florida have been alleged to have kidnapped transgender minors after an audacious protest against legislation aimed at the transgender population in the House of Representatives.

At the Florida Legislature, parents were shown separated from their children in a TikTok video shared on Twitter on Wednesday (19 April).

In the video, one can hear individuals chanting phrases like “release them” and “abductors”, as it is a recorded TikTok live stream by a user named Kyle (@bananabreadmuff1n).

The video explains that the kids were being kept behind a door to the gallery of the House of Representatives.

Kyle is heard narrating the situation as it unfolded, saying: “The parents are here, they are withholding them from the parents illegally.”.

The legislature has been debating a number of laws that seek to crack down on gender-banning, including revoking access to bathrooms based on gender identity and affirming care for transgender rights.

Another regulation aims to prohibit children from encountering any type of drag show.

Therefore, the Florida legislature unlawfully detained a group of non-binary and transgender children today.

They refused to let them out and they refused to let the parents in to get them.

On April 18 (Tuesday), the children and parents were protesting at the House of Representatives in Tallahassee, the capital state, against SB 254, which would ban medical professionals from providing hormone therapy and puberty blockers to transgender minors.

From the gallery, several demonstrators – both adults and children – hurled undergarments at the legislators during the session, adorned with the phrases “none of your concern” and “respect my private parts.”

In an interview with PinkNews, Kyle explained that those individuals who threw the undergarments were apprehended, including the young individuals.

He stated, “They kept children who were LGBTQ+ from their parents.” “The parents and caretakers of those underage individuals were prohibited from entering, which is against the law.”

Kyle mentioned that during the incident, one individual was apprehended for “disrupting the harmony.”

The children of parents who are trans will state their increasing concern as they move away from the family home, as footage shows.

Today, as Republican lawmakers passed laws targeting transgender individuals based on their biological sex, removing transgender youth from care, and prohibiting the use of certain pronouns in schools, demonstrators in the Florida legislative gallery expressed their opposition by throwing underwear onto their heads.

From the moment it was introduced, SB 254 has been controversial because it stipulates that Florida courts could remove trans children from supportive homes and ban life-saving trans healthcare.

When the bill was tabled in March, the legislation’s stated documents indicated that courts could take emergency jurisdiction to modify, stay, or vacate a determination of child custody in order to protect transgender youth receiving gender-affirming healthcare.

The latest version of the statute on the Florida House of Representatives’ website no longer appears to incorporate these provisions.

Reportedly, during the Tuesday session, Republican Randy Fine – the sponsor of the bill – proclaimed that there is malevolence in this world and we confront it at this very moment.

Newsweek quoted him as saying that SB 254 would criminalize specific medical procedures on minors that lead to the amputation of fully functional body parts.

Last week, he appeared to imply that he didn’t mind if the LGBTQ+ community was eliminated.

Earlier this month, the human rights organization Equality Florida issued a “remarkable” caution to LGBTQ+ travelers intending to visit the Sunshine State.

The organization cautioned that LGBTQ+ travelers encounter dangers to their well-being, security, and autonomy subsequent to the approval of numerous anti-LGBTQ+ legislations in the southeastern state.
