Now, the camping season is upon us, and there are few things worse than discovering a perfect spot at a campsite only to be attacked by pesky mosquitoes.
They are not always the best choice, so some people are hesitant to use certain sprays because of the chemicals. While traditional bug candles and sprays have their faults, they do not wear off with sweat or time like others.
Thankfully, there are some unique ways at the bay to keep mosquitoes away that you can use every time you set up camp. These are probably things that you have already planned or have on hand to use during your camp. The best part is that you can use them!
1. Create Some Bubbles.
If you have kids, this is a great activity for them. It’s fun to watch the mosquitoes being attracted to their way, but you can also invest in a bubble machine to keep things moving. If you bust the bubbles with the kids, you can have a lot of fun.
There is a simple reason why blowing bubbles is a good repellent: Mosquitoes don’t like solutions such as soap. So, by blowing bubbles around your campsite, you can keep them away for quite some time. If you want an even more potent solution, you can mix some lemongrass oil into your bubble mixture. While kids are having fun and making suds, you can tell them that they’re also mosquito hunters.
2. Utilize Botanicals.
While you’re trying to make dinner, fresh herbs will keep bugs away and add a lot of flavor to your food. If you’re cooking chicken or steak, throw a few sprigs of rosemary onto the grill with them. For example, burning rosemary is a great natural repellent to keep mosquitoes away. Did you know you can use some of your ingredients to repel mosquitoes? When you’re camping and cooking over an open fire or grill, make sure to cook something over an open fire.
3. Be Extremely Plain.
This natural repellent will keep the mosquitos away and it smells like a good baked smell. Spray it all over yourself as a natural repellent. Take a spray bottle and add a couple of teaspoons of natural vanilla extract to a cup of warm water. Few things work better than the powerful yet soothing scent of vanilla. One way to keep mosquitoes from biting you is to disguise your natural scent.
4. Amaze Them.
Do you have a standing or portable fan in your RV that you can use to literally blow away mosquitoes? Even a small fan that attaches to the outside of your rig can make a big difference in keeping those pesky insects away. Not only will it keep your campsite cooler, but it will also keep your guests around and not fly away because of the light weight and weak wings of mosquitoes.
To prevent them from ruining your camping trip, you can use a couple of these DIY hacks. It doesn’t require countless bottles of bug spray and it isn’t a huge chore to keep mosquitoes away, as you can witness.
