French FA president apologises for Zidane comments after backlash

The Spanish organization, politicians, and athletes also faced the anger of Noël Le Graët, the president of the France Football Federation (FFF), who offered his apologies to Zinedine Zidane on Monday following his remarks about the former coach of Real Madrid.

In the World Cup final held in Qatar last month, Argentina was defeated by the opposing team, which was led by Deschamps. Following Didier Deschamps’ resignation, Zidane emerged as one of the top contenders to assume control of the French team, resulting in the extension of Deschamps’ contract.

“I don’t care at all, he can go wherever he desires.” Le Graët had informed RMC when questioned whether Zidane, a champion of the World Cup with France in 1998 and a revered figure in the nation, would now oversee Brazil instead.

Le Graët declared that he wouldn’t even pick up the phone if Zidane rang, resulting in a unfavorable response and prompting him to offer an apology.

Le Graët stated in a report by L’Équipe, “I wish to offer my personal apologies for these comments which completely do not mirror my opinions, nor my respect for the player he was and the coach he has evolved into.” “I confess that I made clumsy comments which caused a misinterpretation. Zidane is aware of the immense admiration I hold for him, just like all French citizens.”

On Sunday, Le Graët said that Zidane had plenty of support but did not have the chance to stand in for Deschamps, and he was being closely monitored on radar.

He said, “Who can Deschamps make serious criticisms to?” “No one. He does what he wants; it’s none of my concern. We have never met him; we have never even thought about parting ways with Didier. If he wants to go somewhere, to a club… Did Zidane try to contact me? Certainly not, I wouldn’t even pick up the phone.”.

In 2021, Zidane departed from his position at the Spanish club. He is currently unemployed after achieving success in his illustrious playing career by winning the 2000 European Championship with France. Additionally, he made history as the first coach to secure three consecutive Champions League victories while leading Real Madrid. This esteemed individual is currently 50 years old.

Mbappé Kylian was the first to voice his disapproval of Le Graët’s comments, stating on Twitter after the interview that we should not disrespect France, just like Zidane, who is a legend.

If possible, Le Graët had supported the ex-midfielder to assume control two years after his removal of Zidane as a potential replacement for Deschamps.

She called for an apology. Many politicians, including Castéra Oudéa-Amélie, the sports minister of France, reacted to the comments made by Graët’s Le, which were more out-of-touch comments and showed a shameful lack of respect towards a legendary figure in the sport of football, hurting all of us.

These remarks, said by Real Madrid, show a lack of respect for one of the most admired figures in football by fans around the world. The statements made by the president of the French Football Federation are inappropriate and unsuitable for someone holding such a position.
