Highland Park parade shooting suspect Robert Crimo III charged with 7 counts of murder

Authorities said on Tuesday that the suspect legally acquired and obtained a rifle in advance of the planned attack, which resulted in the injury of dozens of people and the death of seven individuals at the Highland Park shooting parade.

Rinehart Eric, an attorney from State’s County Lake, has been charged with seven counts of first-degree murder in the Highwood case. They said that they anticipate filing more charges against him, possibly dozens.

As per Rinehart, if found guilty, Crimo would receive a compulsory life imprisonment term with no chance of parole.

He is scheduled to appear in bond court on Wednesday. Prosecutors will request for him to be detained without bail.

Crimo was apprehended in Lake Forest on Monday night after an extensive search.

Crimo discharged over 70 bullets into the procession, according to statements made by Chris Covelli, spokesperson for the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, during a press conference on Tuesday morning.

Covelli stated that Crimo abandoned his firearm and descended in order to flee, all the while dressed in feminine attire to seamlessly merge with the surroundings and conceal his facial tattoos. Covelli further added that Crimo had meticulously plotted the shooting for several weeks and managed to gain access to the rooftop of a building by utilizing a fire escape ladder.

According to Covelli, the suspect was observed and apprehended after he made his way back to Illinois. Subsequently, he drove to the Madison, Wisconsin vicinity in his mother’s 2010 Honda Fit, which he borrowed from her residence. Crimo subsequently proceeded to his mother’s residence.

Crimo resided with his uncle in the Highwood residence where they also discovered several pistols. Detectives speculate that another rifle was acquired lawfully, and it was present in the vehicle. Covelli affirmed that the firearm was obtained legally.

“The parents ask that everyone respect their privacy as they attempt to navigate through this tragic situation.”

Officials stated that law enforcement confiscated blades from Crimo’s control. On Tuesday, authorities revealed that Crimo had been engaged in two previous occurrences in Highland Park, with the most recent taking place in September 2019. During this incident, a relative contacted the police, expressing concern over Crimo’s possession of a collection of knives and his alleged intent to harm others.

Authorities stated that an individual contacted law enforcement a week later, in April 2019, after discovering that Crimo had attempted suicide several months prior. Mental health experts were managing the matter, and the police engaged in conversations with Crimo and his parents.

Officials stated that three months after the second incident of Crimo, in which firearm ID card owners obtained a sponsored card by their father, the basis to establish the clear and present danger was insufficient, leading to the denial of the FOID application.

Officials stated that the firearm utilized in the shooting on July 4th was acquired following those occurrences.

Mayor Nancy Rotering of Highland Park, speaking to CNN on Tuesday morning, reminisced about encountering him when he was a young child.

She expressed, “I observe this image, and within the inked designs, I perceive the young child. It’s truly saddening. I am unaware of the circumstances that led him to this stage, but let’s pose that inquiry to numerous individuals.” Several years in the past, he was merely a young boy, a reserved young boy whom I was acquainted with. He was a member of my Cub Scout pack, serving as a Cub Scout.

The day prior to the shooting, he previously encountered him. His nephew had recently been terminated from a nearby Panera, which mentioned that his nephew had recently lost his employment at a nearby Panera. Crimo resided in the rear unit of his uncle’s residence, having been a resident of Highwood for the past two years.

The victims of the shooting at the Highland Park parade have been identified as those who were killed.

Cell phone video captured the sound of gunfire during Highland Park’s July Fourth parade. Parade-goers were seen taking cover anywhere they could.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden were “shocked” by the shooting incident during the Highland Park parade.

By the middle of Monday afternoon, authorities identified Crimo as a person who is being investigated.

The outburst occurred eight hours after Crimo’s apprehension. According to his uncle, Bobby Crimo never discussed political opinions or spoke about guns or firearms. Rockford, De Kalb, and Elgin are the connections he has.

According to the news reports in 2019, three individuals who were aware of him and three individuals who knew the previous mayoral candidate for Highland Park, Robert Crimo Jr., Had run for mayor previously, which was his father, Crimo.

ABC News informed a Highland Park business proprietor that Crimo Jr., The father, was raised alongside him and that he was “making utmost efforts to assist his community” but “likely had limited opportunities.”
