Hours Calculator

Duration of hours in various time intervals.

  • How many hours are there in a year?
  • What is the total number of hours in a month?
  • How many hours are there in a week?
  • American versus European time.

Depending on the locale settings of your browser, the calculator will use the UK or US format to calculate the difference in minutes and hours between two given times, making it easy to calculate the duration of a time period.

“To calculate the time difference between tomorrow at 8 AM and today at 6 PM, enter the later hour first. If you enter the earlier hour first, you will get the difference in both full hours and minutes. Simply click the ‘Calculate’ button below after entering the start and end time you are interested in.”

This calculator can be used to determine the duration of time between two specified times, which is helpful for filling out timesheets. For instance, it can calculate the number of hours between 9:00 am and 5:30 pm (or 9:00 and 17:30). To obtain the result, simply enter the two times in any sequence and click “Calculate”. The outcome will be 8 hours 30 minutes (8:30 hours or 8.5 hours in decimal) or 510 minutes. There are a total of 8 full hours between these specified times. Moreover, this calculator also allows for subtracting lunch breaks and other types of pauses from the total duration. For more information on that, please refer to lunch breaks.

    Hours to decimal hours conversion

You can also try our digital time converter. For example, 0.25 equals 15 minutes divided by 60 and there are eight full hours since the decimal in 8.25 is 8:15. To get the decimal part, divide the number of minutes by 60. It’s a simple math: convert the decimal into minutes and append it to the number of hours (hh:ss). This tool automatically displays the decimal part between hours and times.

Duration of hours in various time intervals.

All calculations are based on counting the number of days in a day, which is determined by multiplying 24 by 1. There are times when longer periods of time, such as years and months, may be considered as interest. Furthermore, when calculating the number of hours between two consecutive days, it is common to consider the interest within a day occurring twice.

How many hours are there in a year?

Therefore, the calculation results in 8,784 for 366 · 24, and 8,760 for 365 · 24. A leap year consists of 8,784 hours (366 days), whereas a non-leap year consists of 8,760 hours (365 days). On average, a calendar year consists of 8,766 hours.

What is the total number of hours in a month?

Typically, a calendar month consists of 730.5 hours. The number of hours in each month varies due to the different number of days in each month.

  • There are 744 hours in the months of January, March, May, July, August, October, and December.
  • There are 720 hours in the months of April, June, September, and November.
  • In a non-leap year, February has 672 hours, while in a leap year it has 696 hours.
  • How many hours are there in a week?

The calculation of 168 is obtained by multiplying 24 with 7. This number represents the exact number of hours in a week, with each day consisting of 24 hours and the week consisting of 7 days.

    How many hours?

The answer is precisely eight hours. If you have a 9AM to 5PM job and are curious about the duration of your work hours, it is indeed 9 to 5. Additionally, numerous individuals employed in jobs with consistent hours often wonder how long their work day lasts.

The answer is eight hours (15-7 = 8), and the question is the duration between 7AM to 3PM. If you drop off your children at 7AM and collect them at 3PM, you may ponder on the amount of time they spend at school daily if you leave them early and retrieve them in the afternoon.

There are several examples here of how to calculate the time between two specified time points, using any arbitrary hours and minutes. You can use our hours calculator.

What is the duration between the start and end times in X and Y hours? It is from 5:00PM to 9AM, which is 8 hours. From 5PM to 7AM, it is 10 hours. From 4PM to 8AM, it is 8 hours. From 8PM to 8AM, it is 12 hours. From 6PM to 8AM, it is 10 hours. From 5:30PM to 9AM, it is 8 hours and 30 minutes. From 4:30PM to 7:30AM, it is 9 hours.

Working hours excluding the lunch break.

If you are using our calculator to understand how many hours you are working, you will need to use the functionality which allows for the subtraction of breaks, including different types of breaks such as lunch breaks. For example, if you work from 4:30 to 7:30, which equals 8.5 hours, you would subtract 0.5 hours or 30 minutes. If you are working shifts, you may also have multiple allowed breaks, and your lunch break may not be included. In such a case, you would enter the total amount of time off in minutes.

If we consider using an advanced work hour calculator, we can create a more detailed timesheet exercise. We can add another hour for intensive training, followed by a 15-minute break. If we need to calculate physical activity with intervals and breaks, we can use this calculator.

    American vs. European time

In the afternoon, many Europeans would also say that it would make it even more complicated for guests from overseas. They are talking about the reason why people in America use PM and AM to distinguish the half of the day. Europeans go between 23:59 and 00:00, while Americans use two times in a day until 12 hours. Both the way it is written and the way it is said are different, telling time in a different way for Americans and Europeans.

Example Output: “2 pm is equal to 2 + 12. If you want to schedule a meeting with a colleague, write ‘2 pm’. 5:30 pm is equivalent to 17:30 – 12. If you want to meet someone at 17:30, it would be 5:30 pm. Remember to add or subtract 12 after 1 pm and add ‘pm’ after the result. If you are new to Europe and need to work with ‘military time’, use the hours until 12 in the same manner.”

In critical conditions where time communication is stricter due to the necessity of military operations, a minute or hour of mistaking could result in lives lost. In Europe, the military would use the term “seven o’clock” or “oh seven hundred” to refer to 7:00 am, while “eighteen” or “eighteen hundred” would be used to indicate 6:00 pm. It should be noted that although the European military time is similar to the civilian time, the accuracy is crucial for the sake of precision.
