(2023) Leah McKenney and Jon McLaren, along with Katy Breier, reveal secrets that could put everyone in danger and tear her family apart. Soon, her best friend, who is struggling, takes her home to stay during this tough time.
Recap/Wine Thoughts.
The movie starts off at a BBQ. Joslyn, a friend from high school who has fallen on hard times, is taking care of a pregnant friend named Paige. Michael, Paige’s husband and a real estate agent, isn’t helping her find a place for some reason. Michael and Paige have a son named Tanner, who carries a teddy bear and acts younger than his age. The father and son have a family birthmark on their bellies, which is strange.
(Dang!) When Paige tells him to shut up and get a job, he storms off and interrupts her. Joslyn overhears Michael telling her that she can’t stay in her own home. Paige looks for some trash bags instead of cleaning up. Instead of helping clean up, Michael slams down some beers. The party dies down.
Joclyn has a stunning preterm infant boy… With a birthmark, while lying on his stomach. To facilitate her presence during childbirth, Paige acts as the father, given that the actual father is unidentified. Right when Joclyn is about to confess the truth, she conveniently begins experiencing labor pains. She inquires about Mike to Paige, yet Paige refuses to pardon him. The following morning, Mike expresses remorse for his actions.
Mike assures Paige that money is not the only thing that matters, but if Dolly asks, Mike can be abusive. Paige goes to her mother’s house to vent about it. He gives Joslyn a week to find a new place. It creates tension in Mike’s and Paige’s relationship. Paige has yet to see it, but Joslyn invites them to live with them.
Mike decides to take the baby since Jocyln is clearly unable to care for it and he suggests taking the baby in the middle of the night when Jocyln doesn’t respond to his cries. Additionally, Jocyln is not sleeping well and is becoming increasingly anxious. Furthermore, Jocyln does not handle the news of moving out well.
Paige doesn’t believe that her lifelong friend, Joslyn, violated her when she was passed out drunk and explains that Joslyn screams and cries when she sees the baby changing diaper and the birthmark, causing Paige to drop her jaw; she screams “Why are you doing this to me?”
Paige receives the name Raymond Demante from the bartender. Specifically, Paige is persuaded by bribing her with cocaine and discussing Mike’s business transactions. At a bar, Paige requests water. When she converses with Mike at Star Reality, the bartender informs her that he has not been employed by the company for several months. Paige dresses in her finest professional attire and visits Star Reality to have a conversation with Mike.
Does anyone actually wonder if that’s what people do, but is it really a staple of Lifetime movies? While she folds laundry, she cries and feels unsettled. Almost hitting Paige, Mike insists that he is a good father, and a huge fight breaks out where he is going. Tanner takes Mike out for a fun day, but doesn’t tell Paige where he is going.
Paige hires a PI who is brooding and scruffy, and tells him about her best friend Demante Raymond and the drugs he mentions. Then she goes to a therapist, telling them all of this and asking, “WTF, like, are you kidding me?”
We are about an hour in, and nothing really has happened that wasn’t predictable in the first few mins of the movie.
Mike, unfortunately, is not just a sexy hunk; he also acts as a breakfast pancake. The next morning, Paige tries aggressively to force him to have sex with her, but he is terrified and fights her off. Jon McLaren thought that he is even more jacked than this, but this one really scares the shit out of him!
Instead of leaving his teddy bear behind, Tanner throws it because he doesn’t want to leave his daddy’s leaves. Then she quickly packs her bags and finds a bag full of cash in the garage. Paige sells her wedding ring for some quick cash. Joslyn convinces her to flee with her, and Paige realizes it’s time to split.
Paige grabs her son’s teddy bear and runs out of the house, but Mike shocks her and slaps her across the face. Then, Paige grabs a poker and beats him, but not for long. In order to get their passports and leave the country, Paige goes back to the house, but Mike stops her. Joslyn is worried that they found a bag of money, so they wrap it up and go to a cheap motel to check in. It is revealed that Mike is working with the drug cartel.
She pulls a gun on him, but he pulls a gun on her as well.
Raymond, a friend of Paige’s mother named Joslyn, suggests that they stay at her remote parent’s cabin for a few days to lay low. Will he help them get across the border? They stop at a diner and call Paige’s mother’s friend, who is not a drug dealer named Shotgun, to wreck the cabin.
Embracing his stuffed animal, the child dashes into the forest. Startled by Mike, Tanner becomes frightened and seizes hold of an axe. Before he becomes excessively aggressive, Tanner interrupts and warns Joslyn that he will track her down regardless of her whereabouts. Eventually, Mike locates the cabin.
Paige returns from the store and tells Tanner to be brave and distract Teddy Bear while she takes him off the trail.
“You despicable person!” (Or perhaps it was!) Rendition of the phrase, Joslyn awakens and strikes Mike with the handle of the axe. Right when Paige is on the verge of shooting Mike, Tanner strikes his father in the head with a stone and labels him as a wicked individual. Mike incapacitates Joslyn and chokes Paige. Paige loads her shotgun and fires a cautionary shot (which is foolish.) The bear begins producing sounds and guides Mike into the exposed area.
The authorities apprehend Mike and escort him elsewhere. They fail to notice the cash-filled stroller. The ineffectual private investigator arrives and poses a couple of inquiries; he appears more preoccupied with the narcotics funds (which have disappeared).
Currently located in Canada, Paige and Joslyn are raising their sons together! It’s reminiscent of the Golden Girls, but with kids! The conclusion.
