After the events of the God of War trilogy, we did not expect that Kratos would take another shot at love, especially knowing what happened to his last family. Yet, he fell in love with Faye and raised a son named Atreus. However, the War of God in 2018 and the events in the War of God Ragnarök are established as the start of an known event, but Faye had died and set the stepping stones needed.

Faye’s death in God of War, explained

The officials who worked on the mentioned franchise never even hinted at Faye’s unfortunate death, and there was never any mention of the cause of her character’s demise in any source material. However, the book called Legends and Lore of God War: Ragnarök provided many stories and information related to Faye.

Popular fan theories about Faye’s death

There may not be an official statement or canon information regarding the demise of Faye, but there are various hints dispersed throughout every source material of God of War. Fans are constantly searching for even the slightest proof about Faye’s passing, so if you’re curious, here are a few of the most widely accepted theories regarding Faye’s death.

Faye was sick

The clear sign that Faye was ill before she died and what caused her death has led fans to theorize, of course. In the book “God of War: Legends and War,” it is mentioned that Atreus’s mother looked pale and was less talkative than her usual self. Additionally, there are references to Faye being ill before she passed away in the source materials for “God of War.”

Faye died from her wounds after a great fight

She was a formidable and honorable warrior even prior to meeting Kratos, and she is the original possessor of the Leviathan Axe which belongs to Faye. It is widely known that she holds a strong disdain for Odin and aligns herself with those who oppose him.

In Vanaheim at a certain time, her injuries resulting from the battle caused her death. It is revealed that there existed an additional frozen thunderbolt, implying that Faye possibly engaged in a fight with Thor in Vanaheim. This occurred subsequent to the clash between Mjölnir and the Leviathan Axe, which resulted in the conjuration of a frozen lightning bolt. Thor remarks that the battle between Kratos and Thor appears reminiscent to him.

A combination of both

The first two hypotheses are both very likely to occur, but it is also not impossible to consider that both of these occurrences are true. Faye may have been absent from her residence for an extended period because she was occasionally engaged in battles against Odin’s forces. This might have eventually resulted in a clash with Thor in Vanaheim, and she may have been defending the realm of Jotunheim.

Is it not true that her theory, which solidly explains her death, is pretty much caused by the injuries she sustained? Eventually, everything becomes okay as she pretends to be fine, hiding her wounds, and Kratos and Atreus go back home. She witnesses the demise of her race after weeks of intense fighting.
