How to support the family of Tyre Nichols

A fundraiser created by Tyre Nichols’ mother has raised more than $1 million for the family in the aftermath of his death.

RowVaughn Wells, in the GoFundMe page description, expressed how their son’s experience has completely disrupted their lives, causing their world to be completely upended.

“We have yet to find the suitable environment to commence our mourning procedure, [and] now have to redirect our complete focus towards pursuing rightful justice for our son,” expressed the caring parents, who are both diligent and dedicated.

The fundraiser will help cover the costs of mental health services and unlimited off-time for those who do not have paid time off.

Ms Wells, in accordance with the statement “to celebrate his passion for skating and the beauty of sunsets,” a commemorative skate park for Nichols will be established, which will also contribute to the fundraising efforts.

Nichols passed away in the hospital three days after he was brutally assaulted by law enforcement in Memphis, Tennessee, earlier this month.

On his website, the 29-year-old father of a four-year-old son, who was a celebrated skateboarder and a FedEx worker, brings my viewers deep into what I am seeing through my lens and experiencing through my eyes, which was the vision that I loved writing about and photographing.

“Individuals possess a narrative to share,” he penned, “why not seize it.”

Ms. Wells expressed, “Tyre Nichols was adored by his community and had a reputation for being tender, compassionate, and exuberant. People recognized him as someone who always approached with a desire to embrace and as someone who would never harm even the smallest creature.”

She stated that Nichols had never encountered any legal issues, not even a citation for parking violations. “He was a person of integrity, a remarkable offspring, and considerate towards all individuals. He possessed unique qualities and remained authentic, and his departure will have a nationwide impact.”

Ceasing his movements, Nichols urgently cried out for his mother, beseeching the individuals present to offer assistance amidst the chaos of officers yelling conflicting commands. Unfortunately, he endured relentless blows, being subjected to brutal beatings, pepper spray, and kicks to the head. Eventually, video evidence from the night of January 27th was released by the city.

Police officers engaged in a physical altercation with officers and Nichols displayed resistance, which contradicts an initial police report written hours after the incident of assault. The report asserts that the videos, which have sparked a nationwide movement against police brutality, are authentic.

Throughout the entire interaction, Tyre remained without weapons, non-threatening, and showed respect towards the police,” Ms. Wells expressed on GoFundMe. “My child simply intended to reach home safely and be embraced in my arms.

Five officers – Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Desmond Mills Jr, Emmitt Martin III, and Justin Smith – have been dismissed and accused of second-degree murder, along with various other crimes. Furthermore, two more officers have been put on administrative leave, and two emergency medical workers and a driver from the Memphis Fire Department have also lost their jobs.

Jalen Drummond, GoFundMe’s director of public affairs, stated, “While they navigate through this unfortunate event, the platform will guarantee that these funds are securely and expeditiously delivered to the family.”
