It’s Over — Bed Bath & Beyond is Officially Closed Until Overstock Takes Over

The presence of an inactive Bed Bath & Beyond website, along with a “Check back soon” note, indicates that the conclusion is imminent. All of their stores will be closing by Sunday, July 30, as they gradually conclude operations since late April, with liquidation sales taking place.

Their website is currently being renovated, however, just like Bed Bath & Beyond, BuyBuy Baby was conducting liquidation sales simultaneously. While certain stores may have had more heavily discounted items than others, the shelves were noticeably empty at the New Jersey location I visited. The remaining merchandise, available throughout the store, was marked down by a staggering 90% from the original prices.

Following July 30, the stores will formally cease to exist, however, there is a possibility that the Bed Bath & Beyond website will be operational once more at a certain juncture. We do not have any specific dates yet. Overstock.Com intends to rebrand themselves as “Bed Bath & Beyond” since they were acquired by Overstock.Com. The name will remain (to some extent) in terms of Bed Bath & Beyond’s future.

We’re here to explain how to get the best deals during the final day of Beyond’s & Bath Bed liquidation, and breaking it all down for you.

As of July 30, 2023, all the locations have been closed (except for the one in KCL’s backyard, Meridian, Idaho, which remains open). There is no systematic way (or comprehensive list) to locate the still-operating establishments, and the majority of stores have been closed since July 17.

If you happened to be one of the shoppers who reported that stores only had paper products and generally undesirable items in stock, chances are the best items have already gone by now. If your store had a liquidation sale where everything was ticketed at the lowest prices and saw sales where items were marked down by 90%, you probably experienced the last of it.

Like Christmas Tree Shops, all stores are now closed. My store in NJ closed down in May, being one of the first closures announced after the chain filed for bankruptcy. It was 90% off the day before it closed. On the final day, everything in my closest store was 80% – 90% off.

Previously, employees weren’t told much about the BBB liquidation sales.

Each Wednesday, fresh markdowns commenced at my shop, featuring drapes, bed covers, and window fixtures beginning at a 50% reduction. They initiated the price reductions immediately upon receiving notification. They received an electronic mail either the prior evening or on the day they reported to work. Staff members informed me that it was entirely unpredictable to determine which items would be discounted next during the clearance event.

Watch Out for Markups

During the controversial liquidation sales happening at Christmas Tree Shops, internet shoppers were accusing Bed Bath & Beyond of marking up price tags in order to recoup the most possible money, suggesting that if there are other layers of price tags on top of each other when you check out, make sure to peel back the layers to find the cheapest tag honoring the “lowest” price ticketed. It is a best practice to follow the rule of thumb that during store closures, certain stores may be isolated or happening across the chain, so there’s no telling whether the sale is happening in all stores.

Here’s a detailed account of the events that took place at my store:

What’s next for Bed Bath & Beyond?

BedBathandBeyond.com will be taken over by Overstock.

On the occasion of the rebranding, it is anticipated that coupons will also be available in the United States. They provided customers with coupons offering a 20% discount and were accepting BBB coupons in Canada. Overstock.Com acquired the intellectual property of Bed Bath & Beyond through an auction, therefore, although the physical stores will not reopen, you can expect to witness the rebranding of Overstock.Com’s website to BedBathandBeyond.Com in the near future. Mark your calendars for the significant announcement on June 29, 2023.

You can’t use your 20% off coupons anymore — nor gift cards, gift certificates, or Welcome Rewards points.

Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy Baby ceased to accept their renowned 20% off coupons on April 26, 2023. Additionally, as of May 8, 2023, both Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy Baby discontinued the acceptance of gift cards, gift certificates, and loyalty certificates.

Furthermore, both the Welcome Rewards+ paid membership and the points acquired through the free loyalty program, Welcome Rewards, are no longer valid.

Anything you buy is considered final sale.

The return or exchange policy at Baby buybuy and Beyond Bath & Bed has been changed, and now any purchases made on or after April 26th are considered final sale, meaning you cannot return or exchange anything.

Online orders were still fulfilled.

If you placed an online order through Bed Bath & Beyond, Buybuy Baby, or Overstock.Com before the announcement of our bankruptcy, we regret to inform you that your order for in-stock items cannot be fulfilled due to the closure of our business.

If you had a registry with Bed Bath & Beyond and/or buybuy Baby, you’ll move to a new platform.

The statement was penned from the confines, “We anticipate collaborating with an alternative platform where you can transfer your data and finish your registration.” “In the upcoming days, we will furnish specifics.”

You can still view your registry data, but you can expect a new provider to handle the registry transfer in a timely manner, ensuring the safety of your data.

It is assumed that Overstock.Com will be taking control of the registries for Bed Bath & Beyond, however, Crate & Barrel is giving customers the opportunity to transfer their registries from Bed Bath & Beyond and Buy Buy Baby to them.

This is the process for transferring your registry if necessary:

  • Begin a fresh Crate & Barrel or Crate & Kids registry.
  • Send us a message at 312-477-2326 or visit any Crate & Barrel store across the country with a screenshot of your registry from Bed Bath & Beyond or Buy Buy Baby.
  • Crate & Barrel will provide you with a distinctive 19-digit code for a 20% discount on a single item. Exceptions may apply.
  • 1. Homeware was the section with the most inventory left at the end of the sale, with everything marked down 80% -90%.

Customers eagerly purchased $1 spectacles (typically priced at $5) and various household items during the store’s 80% discount sale, despite the majority of sections being devoid of merchandise.

Here’s a glimpse of other products that were on sale and available in stock during the discount event.

    $10 Jewelry Trays

    $2 Travel Cups

    3. Christmas markdowns started at 50% off and ended up at 90% off, with plenty left in stock.

I spotted the best bargains in the Christmas section, where figurines and lights, along with ornaments and tree toppers, were on sale at a 90% discount.

Take a look at a few of the Christmas clearance sales at BB&B that I discovered.

Decorative trees 80% off, down to $1.60.

90% off stockings, placemats, and ornaments

Tree toppers down to $1.15, (reg. $15), a savings of $13.50!

    4. The store fixtures were also for sale — but they went fast.

There were about eight fixtures left in the shop, and the store was closing at that time. It was worth taking a look at some final sale items. They sold a lot of cheap office supplies and fixtures, including an office desk for $50, office chairs for $25, filing cabinets for $30, lockers for $60, shopping carts for $100, bins for $100, shelving for $100, a fridge for $150, and a floating table for $40. The first thing I spotted was a wall with items for sale. During the liquidation sales at Baby buybuy and BB&B, they sold a variety of other office supplies and fixtures.
