The excitement is building as Kyrie Irving makes his home debut with the Dallas Mavericks tonight at 7:30 when the eight-
time All-Star and his new team play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves at American Airlines Center.
Irving has averaged 25.7 points and 7.3 assists in his three games with the Mavericks so far. The Mavericks acquired Irving and forward Markieff Morris from the Brooklyn Nets last Monday in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and unprotected first-round draft picks in 2029 and 2027.
You can see in the game that he has a level of comfort with us. I think he is just up for any challenge and he works on his craft, which makes things look easy. That’s how talented he is, said Coach Jason Kidd. The reason Irving was able to make such a seamless transition from the Nets to the Mavs, according to Coach Kidd.
He is impressed with the level of maturity displayed by the basketball player. He is aware that Kyrie Irving, for the most part, has achieved a championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.
Kidd stated, “He is currently doing well in his basketball game, and you can see that he is at peace with his game. He can play without the ball, and he has experienced every defensive strategy.”
In the first quarter of the game, Dallas scored 41 points, and George Paul, the forward for the Clippers, noticed that the Mavs were playing with a lot more intensity. He finished the game with 5 assists and 24 points, in contrast to Irving’s performance in their previous game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
George remarked after the Mavs’ 110-104 triumph, “You could sense his energy. Kyrie had a great deal of vigor. They started off with a lot of enthusiasm,” I pondered.
“New team, new environment, new group, so I thought they came out with that new attitude. That first quarter they came out aggressive.”
In his third game with the Mavs this past Saturday, he had 28 rebounds and 7 assists, but the Kings lost in overtime with a score of 128-123. In his second game with the Mavs last Friday, he collected 25 points and 10 assists, leading Dallas to a 122-114 victory over the Kings.
“So, it’s quite simple,” Irving stated. “According to them, all I had to do was stay true to who I am and perform exceptionally well in the game of basketball.”
Irving and Doncic played together for the first time in the Mavs’ third game, after Irving returned from missing four games due to a right heel injury. Irving clicked with Doncic, liking the way he courted and assisting with five rebounds and nine points, winding up with 27 points.
Doncic expressed, “It’s merely our initial game in unison, but I find it extremely enjoyable to engage in basketball with this individual.” “He possesses remarkable skills on the court. I believe it will be exceedingly enjoyable.”
Irving repeated that feeling.
Irving expressed, “There was an exciting time with him, but we could obviously wish to move forward and learn from this. We have gained some more confidence and we could have won, but we really felt that there were special opportunities on both ends of the floor. While I was out there, I felt really grateful that we got out of the situation and learned from it.”
Following his first game with the Mavs, Irving said it “just felt good to get this debut out of the way. Just been a long 96 hours. Barely any sleep most of the times. Just packing my stuff up.
I’m in the middle of a new season, and it’s my first time being traded. I’m excited to be here and eager to keep things rolling.
This evening, for the initial occasion, he will perform in the presence of his recently devoted supporters and he undeniably desires to maintain momentum.
Irving stated, “This team is well-coached.” Even when we played against the Dallas Mavericks during the season, I have had nothing but great things to say about them, but I have not had anything good to say.
“They’ve experienced some achievements in the previous years. A well-managed institution.”
The San Antonio Spurs will host the Denver Nuggets on February 23rd before the All-Star break. This game will be a road game for the Spurs. The final home game before the All-Star break is against the Dallas Mavericks.
Tonight’s match will not be participated in by forward Davis Bertans (suffering from a left calf strain) and center Maxi Kleber (dealing with a right hamstring tear), whereas guard Tim Hardaway (experiencing right hamstring tightness) is uncertain.
*The Mavs are in second place in the Southwest Division – four games behind the Memphis Grizzlies. The Timberwolves are in second place in the Northwest Division
– 10 games behind the Denver Nuggets.
Anthony Edwards, who averages 24.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, will represent the Timberwolves in this weekend’s All-Star game, while Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving will represent the Mavs.
The Mavericks boast a 5-2 record in their latest seven matchups, whereas Minnesota holds a 3-4 record in their preceding seven games.
Luka Doncic recorded 25 points, nine boards, and 10 assists as the Mavericks bounced back two days later and triumphed over Minnesota, 104-99. On December 19th, the Timberwolves emerged victorious over the Mavericks, 116-106, in a duo of matchups in Minnesota earlier this year.
