Director Kristen Sheriden was set to make a biopic about Amy Winehouse in 2015, starring Noomi Rapace. However, there have been criticisms from her father about the documentary that won the 2015 Oscar, stating that it contains some basic untruths and is misleading. Former attempts to make a film about the singer have also faced criticism. It is worth noting that this project is backed by Amy Winehouse’s estate.
Today, Amy remains hugely popular for her music, with hits like “Rehab” and “Valerie” being well-known. The woman, who died in 2011 at the age of only 27 from accidental alcohol poisoning, was the first to win five Grammy awards. It is expected that her follow-up to the best-selling album in UK history, “Back To Black,” will be written by Matt Greenhalgh. This new film about her life will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and will be led by the book “50 Shades of Gray.”
Joaquin Phoenix is rumored to appear alongside the singer in the upcoming musical sequel to Joker. He is also taking some time off from his screen career to focus on his music. She has had recent hits like “Me On Rain” and starred in the 2018 musical remake “A Star Is Born,” which received great acclaim. Last year, she played the role of Patrizia Reggiani in the crime drama biographical film “House of Gucci,” with The Guardian praising her performance. Lady Gaga is yet to be confirmed for the role, but there are other popular choices such as Lauren Jauregui, a member of Fifth Harmony, and singer Alessia Cara, who dressed as Amy for Halloween last year. In 2018, her father mentioned that an unknown, young actress from London with a cockney accent, who bears resemblance to Amy, could be considered for the role of the singer. So they’re making an Amy Winehouse biopic and apparently Lady Gaga is favourite to play her. I don’t think she’s right. Definitely think someone relative unknown and working class should get the opportunity
