Renowned boxer Mike Tyson was granted an extra year to his prison sentence due to his involvement in confrontations with multiple correctional officers while being incarcerated.

Desiree Washington, who was sexually assaulted, prosecuted Tyson, 56, and was sent to prison in 1992. The Plainfield Correctional Facility sentenced ‘Iron Mike’ to six years and four years of probation, but he was set free in 1995 after serving less than three years of his punishment. Tyson emerged victorious in his subsequent four bouts and regained the title of heavyweight champion following his release from incarceration.

He confessed during a recent episode of his Hotboxin’ podcast that his anger, when he initially entered prison, caused him trouble that led to an additional year being tacked onto his sentence. “I received an additional year. When I first arrived, I was furious with everyone; I was unaware that they all intended to offer me affection. Consequently, I engaged in altercations with the guards and such, but eventually, the guards advised me on how to navigate. Now, I am the dominant figure; I have access to food and women. I am the authority within the prison,” he explained.

I had so many programs to go to, but I could never pass the spelling and stuff. I wondered how they could do this s*** that I couldn’t. I said, ‘oh s***ng f****ng.’ We had to give you a year, but how could they do this s***? I remember when you first came here, you had those problems, but the guard who was working for me at that time said, ‘champ, it goes like this.’

In one of his podcast episodes, Tyson expressed worrying remarks about his projected lifespan. The two occurrences occurred after Tyson relied on a cane while in New York, just weeks after he was observed utilizing a wheelchair while passing through Miami Airport. Tyson downplayed worries about his well-being and explained that he required aid for his sciatica, a persistent back condition.

I came out of Prison weighing 215lbs. Did I indent the concrete floor with my feet when I was 285lbs? My cell has a concrete floor, and I would often jump up and down in it. I would also run for around four hours at night, covering a distance of nine or eight miles. Inside prison, I had the best three years of my life. Everyone treated me nicely, and I’m a good person. I’m a cool guy, as stated previously by ‘Iron Mike’, who described his best time in prison.
