After an incident revealing that her son was allegedly “pushed” by another child on a splash pad, a mother has been questioned about whether children should be forced to share.
In a recent post on TikTok, Skye Amundsen, a mother from Maryland who is known as @hopeandplum, shared a video discussing the incident that took place earlier this month.
According to Amundsen, the confrontation took place when her son and she were playing at a local park outdoor sprinkler. The video was noted to be a “message” from me to my mom, informing her that my son should have the audacity to tell me that.
The TikToker stated, “This splash pad is abundant with these, so he’s not causing harm to anyone.” He enjoys stepping on the small objects on the splash pad and preventing them from splashing. He’s just playing. My son is two years old. Before you pass judgment on me, please listen to my reasoning.
The TikToker in the video approached the two-year-old, who was displeased with her son’s behavior, and commented on the incident.
Amundsen remembered, “And she shoves him once more.” “And my son responds: ‘No’ and he retreats from it,” and she’s larger than him and she pushes him.
According to Amundsen, I was like, you know, well, giving her the chance to intervene for the other child’s mother, and she was sitting there watching.
The TikToker mentioned that her son became “angry” and forcefully pushed the other child away. Nonetheless, Amundsen mentioned that despite the woman’s daughter allegedly pushing her two-year-old for the third time, the other mother failed to intervene.
Amundsen continued to explain that he was not going to let her confront her son about his behavior towards her, because he knew that she was talking to him as his mother. So, I decided to intervene.
Said the TikToker, “And that’s tolerable and he should distribute with that human? So my child should permit your child to push him, and your daughter approached and shoved my son three times? Your son should acquire how to share, it would be preferable for him,” this woman has the nerve to express to me as I’m conversing with my son.
In the Amundsen video, everyone has different opinions on sharing, especially when another child is involved. Although your child may not believe in forcing them to share, she thinks it’s nice and “likes” sharing.
According to Amundsen, she ultimately told the other mother that when it came to sharing their opinions, they could “disagree to agree.”
As of July 25th, the TikToker’s video, which she captioned “What do you think? Why don’t we force sharing and find it naturally most of the time? But why would anyone share with someone they don’t know?” Has been viewed more than 609,000 times, prompting other parents to weigh in on the comments.
In response, the majority of viewers said they agreed with Amundsen on the grounds that sharing should not be anticipated after “pushing”.
“I completely agree with you. Absolutely not sharing after pushing. Oh no way,” one individual wrote.
“I am unable to comprehend, she desires him to permit her to utilize the solitary water faucet that he was engaging with?” Another individual remarked: “Completely concur. Furthermore, what is he intended to divide?”
During the altercation, Amundsen disclosed that she was “so shocked that she couldn’t utter a word,” prompting another individual to comment, “Oh my, the audacity of that other mother. To be fair, you possess superior composure compared to me.”
“Not saying more” for “kicking” herself but she was later in “true shock,” she said she was in response to another comment.
In a conversation with The Independent, Amundsen mentioned that the second parent did not respond when she suggested they “reach a shared understanding to embrace differing perspectives.”
She was “astounded” by the other mother’s response to the situation, as she did not make any remarks about the pushing, she also stated.
She remembered that “I didn’t say anything about the shoving because I was rendered speechless by the mother’s reaction, so I shifted my attention to my upset toddler” and “When I mentioned it to the other mother, she didn’t reply, so I left to bring my toddler and newborn into the shade”.
The TikToker has said that it has been “interesting” to see the ways the online community has reacted to the conversation about expectations placed on children, as evidenced by the viral response to the video.
It has been an interesting conversation with other online parents about the expectations we place on young children when we do not expect adults from the same.
