The Pittsburgh Steelers step onto the field for a game on September 15, 2019.

The NFL rolled back its rule saying players who knelt during the national anthem, like former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, in protest against police brutality and the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and other Black people, would be fined. The league even issued an apology to Kaepernick and encouraged teams to sign him. This came after widespread protests broke out following the deaths of Taylor and Floyd, as part of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Kaepernick consulted with a veteran before starting his protest kneeling, claiming that kneeling during the anthem is disrespectful to the military and the country. Opponents of these protests argue that it has fueled the ongoing debate over the culture of war and athletes.

It is a fact that the site is a satire and it continues to take advantage of gullible Pittsburghers by sharing stories as if they were true, perpetuating the war on culture in its own unique way.

The satirical piece titled “Pittsburgh Steelers Will Fine ANY Player Kneeling For The Anthem $1 Million” is unmistakably attributed to dailyworldupdate.Us, the platform where it was published. It specifically targets individuals who believe in a flat Earth, ardent supporters of Trump, and extremist groups such as y’all Qaeda.

“A form of humor that you can show respect for is satire. The section it falls under is filed as Eagleton. The Chicken, read by Flagg, also has the byline. Popeyes, a fast-food chain, includes tropes that are considered racist. The executive of the Steelers is quoted in a fake story, which is also fake.”

The article in question received no media attention and falsely reported that Malia Obama was apprehended. Additionally, it mentioned that Hillary Clinton made a threat towards Melania Trump, along with other fabricated stories aiming to falsely portray conservatives and the far-right. The entire website is filled with such misleading content, which is even more distressing. However, it should be noted that the article in question is simply satire and lacks any factual basis.

That even upon visiting the website, it becomes apparent that individuals are not inclined to share it either.

Friends sharing a fake article on Facebook about fining Steelers players is telling you everything society needs to know, it’s not really looking at the source or clicking even if you did, (That’s rhetorical).

Satire was not the main focus, as John Steigerwald, a sports columnist and talk show host, even shared a link to the fake story.

The truth is that Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said in June that he supports players that take a knee during the anthem.

“We are going to support our players’ willingness to participate in actions or statements. Our position is simple: we thoughtfully consider how to utilize the platform and have discussions about ongoing issues. We have spent a lot of time talking as a group about how to do this best,” Tomlin said during a conference call on June 23.

Nonetheless, there have been recent reports by NBC News that there are more than 3 million members of Qanon supporting groups on Facebook, especially on the right and particularly on social media, who falsely believe that Democrats and elites are part of an underground child prostitution ring, based on the baseless conspiracy theory.

Hence, kindly abstain from spreading the inaccurate storyline about the Steelers and actively address individuals who partake in such conduct. It is evidently contrived and evident to perceptive individuals.
