Philadelphia mass shooting suspect left behind a will, had been acting agitated: DA

According to WPVI, the man accused in the fatal shooting spree in Philadelphia left his house on Monday night and wore a tactical vest around his house before shooting his roommate and leaving four others wounded and five people dead. Prosecutors said he acted agitated.

In his first court hearing on Wednesday morning, 40-year-old Kimbrady Carriker was charged with 11 total offenses and several counts of each.

Carriker is facing charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, attempted murder, and murder for carrying a firearm without a valid permit.

He is being held without bail for the murders.Output: He is currently detained without the option of bail for the homicides.

“Public safety is clearly an issue. There are no set conditions to ensure the safety of the community,” Judge Naomi Williams said.

Carriker is facing related charges to the shooting of several other victims, including a 10-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy, who are twins of the woman, aged 33.

Multiple shots were fired inside a Cherokee Jeep when investigators say Carriker and the woman, who were twins, were injured.

According to reports, the woman behind the wheel, aged 33, and one of the two-year-old toddlers seated in the rear experienced lacerations caused by broken glass.

The second two-year-old boy was shot in the leg.

The officials say that the 10-year-old child, who was not injured when Carriker opened fire, is among the victims. They also state that the child’s life is in danger and was seated as a passenger in the Jeep.

Investigators claim that a police officer leaped into the Jeep and transported them all to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center for medical care.

The wounded 13-year-old boy was strolling along the road when he was shot several times in the leg.

Carriker lives in the 5600 section of Belmar Terrace, which is just a couple of blocks from where the shooting incident occurred on Monday.

According to sources, Carriker utilized untraceable firearms known as ghost guns during the mass shooting incident, while also being reported to have worn a bullet-resistant vest. Sources further indicate that prior to the occurrence of gunfire, the suspect had made alarming posts on social media.

Joanne Pescatore, the supervisor of the Non-Fatal Shooting and Homicide Unit at the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, said that the roommate living with Carriker, who was described as more and more agitated over the past few days, had guns in the house and was wearing a vest before the shooting occurred. Pescatore also mentioned that at least one of the seven roommates was living with him.

“She stated during a press briefing on Wednesday, located just a few blocks away from the site of the shootings,” as he grew increasingly restless, their approach to handling the situation was simply to refrain from engaging with him.

According to law enforcement sources, his family had been worried about his mental wellbeing for a long time.

Family members informed the authorities that Carriker would frequently engage in tirades regarding Biblical terminology.

During his apprehension, Carriker refrained from firing at any officers, a fact which, according to a law enforcement official, is believed to be the reason why he perceives himself as “a champion of the police and a supporter of law enforcement.”

Larry Krasner, the District Attorney, declined to discuss Carriker’s mental health when asked whether it might have played a role in the killings, as the defense would have expected in an evaluation request.

The representative of the Philadelphia Association Defender’s office said he believed Carriker would be declined on immediate comment charges.

They declined to discuss any details of the planning and indicated whether Carrick had given any indication between the shooting and the attack. Prosecutors said they recovered a handgun dated June 23 and other evidence during a search of Carricker’s home.

The suspect, who had previous encounters with the law, has been on probation since 2003 for charges related to gun and drug misdemeanors. This is not the first time Carriker has had run-ins with the law.

  • “What happened (Monday) night in our Kingsessing neighborhood was unimaginably disgusting and horrifying,” Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said at Tuesday’s news conference.

It all started around 8:30 p.M. On the eve of Independence Day in the southwestern part of the city, specifically in the area of Chester Avenue and 56th Street.

Law enforcement authorities state that individuals dialed 911 to notify them about a gunfire incident, while others signaled for assistance from officers.

The security footage obtained by News Action showed a shooter believed to be firing a high-powered rifle toward the intersection at the Jeep during the investigation.

Law enforcement officials report that a minimum of 50 rounds were discharged at the location and several automobiles were hit.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found gunshot victims in their patrol cars and immediately began putting them into the hospital-bound vehicles as they heard more gunfire and the sound that Carriker encountered.

According to investigators, Carriker possessed a law enforcement radio receiver, an AR-type firearm, and a pistol. The individual was dressed in a ballistic-resistant vest and was in possession of numerous ammunition cartridges, as stated by the police. Law enforcement authorities report that officers successfully pursued and trapped Carriker in the back alley of 1600 Frazier Street.

Police say they do not yet know the motive for the gunfire, and there is no known connection between the shooter and the victims.

He referred to the comments as hateful that were misdirected and violent. Asa Khalif, a member of Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee, stated that the shooter shared pictures on social media while wearing attire that seemed to be for women, resulting in hateful remarks targeted towards transgender individuals. He made this statement on Wednesday.

Khalif stated, “Aggressive and perilous, focusing on trans women of color is the verbiage expelled by the conservative media. However, the perpetrator has not disclosed their transgender identity. They have solely disclosed their male identity. It is inciting the community towards violence.”

The neighbors were surprised to discover that their fellow resident is being accused of this act of violence.

Neighbor one said, “He helps everyone without exception. He speaks to everyone.” “If you inform them, it’s as if you’re giving them a ticket and he will knock on your door and tell you. Additionally, if you park on the curb, the police officer will come.”

Mayor Jim Kenney stated on Tuesday that it is crucial for this nation to reflect on its morals and determine effective strategies to separate firearms from individuals who pose a threat to public safety.

Kenney continued, “It is a disgraceful situation common to all of America, where people are randomly shooting at individuals walking down the street while wearing multiple magazines and a bulletproof vest, with an AR-style rifle.”

Krasner stated on Tuesday that the individual’s behavior was warranted at this juncture. That individual has subsequently been set free. Authorities claim that on Monday night, a second individual, who happens to be a sibling of one of the individuals shot, was apprehended for purportedly discharging rounds at the suspect responsible for the mass shooting.

    Family, friends remember the victims

Investigators initially believed that Wamah was the first victim killed. The shooting wasn’t discovered until several hours later, and Wamah lived alone. The fifth victim was found after the shooting occurred. Initially, four people were believed to have been killed.

The siblings of 31-year-old Wamah described their brother as an affectionate individual and a talented sketch artist.

Josephine Wamah expressed, “His relatives looked after him, he provided the most affectionate embraces. I truly will long for that captivating grin.”

Tyrique Glasgow, a mentor and founder of Young Chances Foundation, mourns the two individuals who were the youngest and oldest casualties.

“It pains me, I won’t sugarcoat it,” he expressed.

Ralph Moralis, his family member, who is 59 years of age, was delighted to escort his daughter as she made her way down the aisle on her forthcoming wedding day.

“He was the individual who, despite any family event, always had that smile,” Glasgow stated.

Glasgow acted as a guide to Dejuan Brown, a 15-year-old who tragically perished while protecting his 13-year-old friend from a shooting occurrence.

Marie Merritt, who expressed that her son Lashyd was a well-behaved individual who adored his occupation, his partner, and nieces and nephews, conversed with Action News.

Marie said that her 22-year-old son was shot and killed just a few hours ago, stating, “They are all going to miss him.” The children would exclaim, “Shame! Shame! Shame!” This man would have done it just for Christmas. You didn’t even ask him for anything.

She said he had the perfect job that he loved, and his family was waiting for his girlfriend to marry him. Marie said Lashyd, the youngest of their five siblings, was happy.

Marie exclaimed, “Such youth and brilliance!” “He,” Marie stated, “was not involved in the violence.” “He,” she continued, “was not a participant in,” continues to occur in Philadelphia, all the things.

Marie didn’t have a lot of words to express about the suspect, but she made her message unmistakable.

She said, “You should help some people get help and leave others alone. You should have gotten help before whatever you were going through in your mind. You didn’t do whatever thoughts you had – my message to him. You took my baby. You took my son.”

An interfaith prayer vigil will be held on Wednesday night at Church of Light and Salt in Kingsessing to honor the deceased.
