Access to original items and information regarding the rights and limitations – Highsmith M. Carol: to view, as well as citing and publishing material, reproducing this for information purposes.
Obtaining Copies
You can download it yourself if an image is being displayed. (On the site, only some images are displayed as thumbnails because you have access to larger size images, considering rights of the Library of Congress.)
Alternatively, you have the option to acquire duplicates of different varieties through the Duplication Services of the Library of Congress.
To obtain a copy that includes the catalog record (“About This Item”) and to ensure a colored or tinted version, please provide the Call Number mentioned above. If the original only contains black-and-white (“b&w”) sources, you can usually purchase a high-quality colored copy.
Price catalogs, contact details, and purchase forms can be found on the Duplication Services website.
Access to Originals
Please use the following steps to determine whether you need to fill out a slip and call out for a substitute image, which is often available in the form of microfilm or a print copy, in some cases, in order to view the original item(s) in the Photographs and Prints Reading Room.
Has the item been digitized? (A small thumbnail image will be visible on the left.)
Are the Access Advisory or Call Number fields above indicating the presence of a non-digital alternative, such as microfilm or copy prints?
Please contact the staff in the Reference Room of the Photographs and Prints department at 202-707-6394, and press 3, between 8:30 and 5:00 to inquire about our services or ask for assistance from a librarian.
