The police in Fairfax County, Virginia, said that a man, who they suspect of stealing from a store in Tysons Corner Center, was shot and killed. The man did not say whether he was armed or not.
Disclosed at a press briefing on Wednesday evening, Chief of Police Kevin Davis will persist throughout Thursday morning and is currently engaged in the inquiry into the events that transpired on Wednesday night in the vicinity of Fashion Boulevard in McLean at approximately 7 p.M.
Davis stated, “During the entire pursuit, it is possible that we may have discarded any evidence, so we are going to conduct a search for it. Additionally, we are planning to secure the crime scene in order to preserve any significant daylight that could potentially impact the crime scene. At the moment, I am unaware if the suspect was armed.”
The man ran from the police into a small, heavily wooded area about a quarter mile away. Davis claimed that the alleged theft occurred inside the mall.
During the chase, two officers discharged their firearms, causing Davis to shoot at them. Police said that commands were issued to Davis and both plainclothes and uniformed officers participated in the chase.
The police said he was struck in the upper body, preliminary. It was described that the man, who is well-known in the law enforcement area of D.C., Has been struck many times, but it is not yet known how many times, according to Davis.
That man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead. No officers were hurt, Fairfax County police said.
Davis did not say anything if he saw the police holding scene, but he mentioned that the man was armed.
Davis emphasized that the officer, dressed in uniform, was equipped with a body camera, which he deemed crucial for understanding the unfolding events.
Davis expressed, “We are truly concerned about the significant impact these officer-involved shootings have on our country, but it is especially alarming when we consider the amount of scrutiny that follows these incidents.”
Fashion Boulevard was closed between Leesburg Pike and Tysons Place One. Police asked drivers to avoid the area and follow police directions.
Davis stated that the mall continues to be an absolute safe destination for shoppers, despite the shooting incident that occurred six months ago, leading to panicked shoppers fleeing and resulting in the police investigating the mall as they closed down the shopping center. The 16-year-old suspect was arrested in December last year and is facing charges related to the possession of a firearm. Echoing what he was told in the “DMV Download” podcast, Davis emphasized that the mall remains a secure place, whether people are pursuing entertainment or going out for dinner.
Davis stated, “We have a total of 16 police officers assigned to our team here. It is crucial for us to emphasize the importance of public safety in this area and how significant it is for many individuals.”
This is the location where it occurred.
