¿Cuándo empieza y cuándo acaba la Cuaresma?
Easter Sunday marks the arrival of our Lord’s resurrection and death, and we commemorate his passion during the time of the pascal triduum which follows Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. This period, also known as the “Holy Week” or “Semana Mayor,” leads up to and includes the celebration of Easter, which falls on a different date each year. Lent, also referred to as the “Great Week,” begins on Ash Wednesday and lasts for 40 days, symbolizing the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert before starting his public life, as well as the 40 years the Israelites spent in the desert with Moses.
Why fast, pray, and give alms during Lent?
Lent is a journey of mercy. Lent is a time to look inward and outward. Lent is a time of spiritual and personal growth. During Lent, we strive to deepen our relationship with God and our relationship with others, no matter where they are in the world. These guide us in our daily reflection on our own lives. As Catholics, we prepare for the key events of Holy Week through the pillars of almsgiving, fasting, and prayer. We prepare for this important event like an athlete prepares for a competition.

Fasting and Abstinence during Lent
On Fridays during Lent, Catholics who are over 14 years old must refrain from eating meat, and on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, individuals between the ages of 18 and 59 must fast and avoid consuming meat.
How to Practice Fasting and Abstinence During Lent?
We save money to give to those in need and find new ways for God to act in our lives. We make sacrifices and offer them as sweet things, like giving up small things such as coffee or sweets. We Catholics are also inviting guests to join us in these sacrifices. Additionally, on Fridays, we don’t eat meat. The recipes of Lent are a global solidarity experience, without having to leave the kitchen. It is an excellent family activity to prepare meals without meat, like the ones we collect from countries around the world. Lent is a time to carry out the abstinence.
