¿Qué es la famotidina?

Famotidine, when taken, helps to reduce the production of stomach acid, which in turn decreases the symptoms of acidity. Famotidine is an ingredient commonly found in medications that are designed to decrease acidity and prevent its symptoms.

Various conditions can lead to damage to the digestive organs, including the stomach, when excessive acid is produced. The stomach contains acid, which helps to digest food, along with other molecules and enzymes.

When prescribed by a doctor, famotidine can be used to treat the following conditions:

When this protein activates, it triggers the parietal cells to start producing acid. In the lining of the stomach, there is a type of cell called parietal cells, which contain several “switches” that help control when acid is produced. The acid produced in the stomach is generated by these parietal cells.

Acid reflux is decreased by reducing the production of stomach acid. The production of extra acid is inhibited by blocking the activation of histamine H2 receptors and blocking the activity of parietal cells. Histamine 2 blockers attach to the histamine H2 receptor and are referred to as H2 receptor antagonists (H2RAs) or simply histamine 2 blockers. Famotidine belongs to this specific class of medication.
