Funeral directors at Leverton & Sons, who cater to the royal household, have confirmed to USA TODAY that the oak casket in question was crafted over three decades ago. They further explained that it was passed down to them from Kenyons, a different company, as it was originally commissioned for the queen.

“The Times, a British publication, previously informed Sons & Leverton at the funeral of their director, Andrew Leverton, that the item is crafted from English oak, which is exceedingly challenging to acquire.”

He told me that it would be too expensive now to use an oak coffin for it. I don’t think we could use English oak for coffins anymore. Oak coffins are now made from American oak.

Leverton & Sons stated that during the queen’s funeral, a total of eight military carriers will be responsible for transporting the coffin. Additionally, the coffin is reinforced with lead, resulting in its significant weight.
