Raven-Symoné Talks ‘The Cosby Show’ And Pressure To Lose Weight As A Child On TV One’s ‘Uncensored’

Raven-Symoné, the Disney Channel star, who was a prominent member of The Cosby Show cast led by the disgraced comedian Bill Cosby, claims to have no recollection of the experience. In a recent episode of UNCENSORED on TV One, she candidly discussed her entire career and reflected on her journey from her early days in the industry to her current position.

Denise Huxtable, stepdaughter of Kendall, made her debut on the show after four seasons of the Cosby Show. Raven appeared as the young talent Olivia at the age of four in 1989.

I don’t remember training, and as soon as the camera starts clicking off, I went down to play with the wood. I remember standing up there and then we came down to walk up these stairs. When we opened the show in front of a live studio audience, I remember the smell of food coming from his dressing room. I don’t remember anything while it’s a camera or rehearsal. I don’t remember a scene. I don’t remember working with anyone. I don’t remember anything. The 35-year-old shared, “My parents told me that I can only tell you about the journey to The Cosby Show from folklore.”

“Upon reaching the age of 18, I sensed that something was amiss, prompting me to seek therapy for what turned out to be dissociation. There are moments when I completely lose awareness of my surroundings, assuming the persona expected of me when the camera is rolling, only to return to my true self once normal life resumes. Furthermore, this condition remains suppressed, despite maintaining a strong bond with Malcolm Jamal Warner, for reasons unknown to me. All I can say is that I deeply admire him. As for its origin, I cannot pinpoint it precisely, but I am certain that he offered assistance during my time of need,” she further elaborated.

After The Cosby Show, Raven-Symoné went on to Hanging With Mr. Cooper, and at seven years old, conversations about her weight began.

She shared, “I didn’t understand what I was told, but then I started to comprehend the conversation when scenes from the past came into my mind, back when I was younger.” The only thing I was looking for was control, because it got out of my control. As I got older, it got out of my control. I don’t even look like I’m fat and I’m not, but it just happened.

Raven Symone The View

The talk show was different than her usual role on the silver screen, as Raven-Symoné cohosted from 2015-2016 before she left. Raven, the star of The View on ABC, also discussed her time on the show during an intimate tell-all.

She said, “I’ve had one of the hardest jobs ever, a very difficult decision. I just wanted to be underneath her, I love her so much. Don’t say no to an EGOT! Whoopi asked me, Two. I decided to go into The View show by my adulthood. All these people, Lindsey Lohan, oversexualizing themselves, made a transition to adulthood. Everybody grew up within the industry around my age bracket. There were a couple of reasons why I did it.”

On Saturday, October 17th, UNCENSORED One’s TV will air a full episode of ‘The View’ where Raven-Symoné discusses her journey.
