Shanquella Robinson’s family lawyer blasts FBI’s ‘lack of transparency’

Following their decision not to pursue legal action, the organization is withholding the autopsy findings from them, citing criticism from the attorney representing the family of a US citizen who passed away under mysterious circumstances in Mexico last autumn, regarding the FBI’s purported “lack of openness” in the matter.

Shanquella Robinson, aged 25, was discovered deceased in a hotel chamber in Cabo San Lucas on October 29th.

The autopsy later revealed that she suffered a broken neck and other traumas, but authorities initially attributed her death to alcohol poisoning, which was said to be the cause of death of the native of North Carolina.

A distressing video depicted one of Robinson’s acquaintances purportedly assaulting her shortly prior to the discovery of her remains.

The family of Robinson expresses their desire to have direct access to the autopsy findings.

This week, family lawyer Sue-Ann Robinson, who is not a relative, expressed that the loved ones of the clothing designer are becoming more and more exasperated with the insufficient response from US authorities, as reported in an interview with the US Sun.

“The family is extremely let down,” she informed the media.

“They’re worried, clearly, about the warning signs and the absence of openness in the inquiry, but they’re not discouraged.”

In November, Mexican authorities announced that they were investigating the death of Robinson as a homicide, as she had traveled to a resort in Cabo with at least one of her six friends known as the “Cabo Six,” just a day before her demise, and arrest warrants have been issued for some of them.

In April, the FBI declared that it will not pursue charges against any of the friends due to insufficient evidence. Sue-Ann Robinson’s family has refused to provide the autopsy report to the agency, as alleged by Shanquella Robinson.

She stated, “According to the FBI, ‘We are unable to provide you with the autopsy results as the investigation is ongoing, and we are currently awaiting the translation of documents from the Mexican authorities.'”

The decision you made in the case and publicly announced to the public and the family is being affected by some documents from the investigative file that have not been fully translated. Although you are saying that the case is still ongoing, there are red flags everywhere again.

Sue-Ann mentioned that Robinson’s family intends to visit Washington, DC, on May 19th to commemorate 200 days since her passing.

“There should be a level of urgency, a level of prioritization by the US authorities that just isn’t there yet,” she said.

We are demanding that Mexican authorities allow the extradition process to flow, prioritize the case, and take steps to prosecute the person they have identified as the aggressor. We saw everything that happened on the video.

The heartbroken family’s legal team, after being extradited to Mexico to face charges, composed a comprehensive letter to President Biden in March, urging him to ensure that the individual shown as the “direct aggressor” in the assault video is held accountable.

Sue-Ann stated, “During that period,” within our nation, we directed the communication towards the top-ranking diplomats because we require a significant degree of diplomatic interference.”

A video showed Robinson being beaten by one of her friends shortly before she died.

Sue-Ann informed the Sun that she recently journeyed to Mexico to investigate, revealing that the US government has received an extradition file and the preliminary inquiry is finished.

She stated, “I have never had to physically travel to a different nation to conduct an inquiry on behalf of any household. … I have a background as a prosecutor and a lawyer for criminal defense. It was an otherworldly encounter in the sense that I have been practicing law for nearly 17 years.”

It’s the same time to seek justice on behalf of the loved one, but the family has also been trying to go through the grieving process while bearing a very heavy burden. They had to go to such great lengths because it felt unreal in regard to that loved one.

In mid-April, officials from the FBI directed the Sun to issue a statement regarding the circumstances surrounding Robinson’s death, stating that it had been a top priority, according to Sue-Ann’s statements.

Sue-Ann noticed that the Robinson family is still embracing hope that justice will be provided, either in Mexico or domestically.

“There is still a route to fairness, and the family acknowledges that,” she stated.
